The City of Great Bend has been responding to water main breaks over the last few days. Last Friday, crews responded to a main break at Sunset Road and Zarah Road, just south of 24th Street.

Great Bend City Administrator Logan Burns said staff was working until 11 p.m. that evening resolving the issue with old Transite pipe.

"For this one, there were a bunch of tree roots," said Burns. "There's no trees around at all. The caliper on those roots was probably three to four inches and it just followed it the entire way. That probably had a lot to do with it. I think we got to a point where we have some good pipe now."

City staff then had to respond to another water main break Monday at 2nd Street and Pine Street. Burns said that issue has been fixed and crews will circle back to break near 24th Street on Tuesday.

"If we do any after school, we'll let everyone know," said Burns. "We want to avoid doing the repairs during school obviously, but if we do anything after then we'll let the public know there might be an interruption in service."
