There are still shifts available to paint a downtown mural this weekend
in Great Bend, and funds are still needed to bring the street mural to life.
The Great Bend Economic Development, in partnership with the Barton Arts
Movement, are hosting a volunteer work day Friday, Sept. 9 to place the street mural
on the alleyway between Forest Avenue and Lakin Avenue.
Operating from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m., volunteers are needed throughout the day to prep and paint
the surface.
Great Bend Economic Development Director Sara Hayden said the mural will be a
vibrant image to hopefully encourage more art around the downtown entertainment
district.
"A huge thank you to local artist Melanie Ryan," said Hayden. "She has designed the mural and taken a lot of her own time to get this ready so we can do a 'paint by numbers.' Come down help paint or come down and just check it out."
Volunteers can sign up for 90-minute shifts this Friday by visiting bartonartsmovement.com. Sponsorships and donations are still needed to
reach the $4,500 goal to pay for the project.
The alleyway is an extension of the entertainment district, located on Forest
Avenue, where the street is closed on the final Friday of the month to provide
live music, food and beverages.
