In August of last year, the Barton County Commission agreed to provide $300,000 in funding to the city of Ellinwood for material costs associated with utilities for the new hospital and a new proposed housing development. The city of Ellinwood had one year to spend those funds. Tuesday morning, Ellinwood City Administrator Chris Komarek asked the commission for an extension.

"We're not going to make that deadline so we're asking for an extension as it was agreed upon we could come back and ask for the commission to consider an extension of that funding," he said. "I think we've talked about doing July 1, 2024."

At the August 2022 meeting, Komarek told the commission the material goods would cost approximately $536,000 and include 6,200 feet of water main, 5,600 feet of sewer main, 1,100 feet of stormwater pipe, and 17 manhole covers. He told the commission Tuesday morning that the city met with property owners late Monday regarding stormwater and everything went well. Komarek expects the final stages of the project to begin soon.
