Naya Danenberg of the 5th ranked Barton Community College volleyball team has been named the week five KJCCC Division I Defensive Player of the Week.
The award is the second consecutive week for the Cougars in following Phoebe Reyes being named the week four Offensive Player of the Week.
Danenberg had a strong defensive effort last week helping the Cougars remain unbeaten in KJCCC play by reaching double digit digs in both matches to average 4.33 digs per set.
The sophomore opened the week patrolling the back line with 12 digs and teaming up for a pair of assisted blocks in a three-set win at Seward County before capping the week off with a perfect service receive effort in 24 chances while adding 14 digs, averaging 4.67 digs per set in home sweep over Dodge City.
Most recently Danenberg and the Cougars took control of the early season race on Monday by picking up a straight set sweep at 6th ranked Colby Community College.
The 16th sweep of the season and fifth conference short night puts Barton alone at the top the standings at 5-0 and 18-1 on the season.
Continuing its stretch of three road contests, Barton plays 6:30 p.m. tonight at Garden City Community College before Saturday's 6:00 p.m. start at Hutchinson Community College. The Cougars' next home match comes Wednesday, October 2, hosting Cloud County Community College.
