The library has long been a good place to learn. Jo McFadden, director of the Ida Long Goodman Memorial Library in St. John, is turning that into an event with Lunch and Learn. The Oct. 20 event featured a presentation about Iceland, and attendees learned about the importance of sewing in November. Stafford County Economic Development Director Ryan Russell said his organization wants to join in the fun.

"We're going to be doing some stuff that's specific to economic development," he said. "We're going to have somebody come in and talk about how to start a business after 50, how to deal with Medicare issues. We're going to have buying a house for the first time, and also how to set up your estate for when you want to pass things on to your family members."

Lunch and Learn is typically held on Fridays from noon to 12:50 p.m. at the library. Russell said the events are a good way to share information and help people grow personally and professionally.

"Economics is everything," he said. "It's how people are spending their money, how they're living, the decisions they're making. We want to help the people in the county be able to have their lives run smoother, or offer information for them to make decisions economically for themselves, and even maybe get to the place where they're making enough money they can invest in a business themselves."

The next lunch and learn, titled "Personal Journeys: Grounding Yourself in the Ancient Medicine Wheel" is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 8, and will feature Joyce Frey, Ph.D., and Rhonda Westerhaus, Master of Science.
