The 30th ranked Barton Community College men's golf team placed 4th overall Tuesday at the Region 6 Championships held at Newton's Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
Barton put together a trio of solid, consistent rounds of 308-304-306 for a 54-over 918 to distance fifth place Coffeyville. At the top of standings was 3rd ranked Hutchinson at 16-over 880, two strokes ahead of 12th ranked Dodge City's 882, with 10th ranked Garden City finishing third with an 890 accumulation and 28-strokes ahead of the Cougars.
A pair of Cougars earned All-Region 6 honors led by sophomore Kaleb Lambert's 5th overall individual finish of the 35-man field at 7-over 223. Lambert made the first-round turn in the fifth position after countering three bogeys with a trio of birdies carding an even-par 72. Falling two spots following a Monday afternoon 75, Lambert climbed back in the fifth spot during Tuesday's windy morning round 76 card.
Ted Gemzell made a gritty climb shooting a 1-over in his final two rounds moving into a 2nd Team All-Region 6 honor position finishing tied for 10th at 10-over 226. Opening with an 81, the freshman carded five birdies firing a collegiate best even-par round moving up to 17th by the end of the day before leaping up another eight spots on a final round charge of 1-over 73.
Martin Chevallier finished one-stroke out of a Top-20 finish, posting twin 75 Monday rounds before dropping six spots on a final 79 in part to the testy par-5, 16th hole resulting in a double bogey to fall into 22nd at 15-over 231.
Talon Reynolds put together morning rounds of 79 and 78 with an 82 from Monday's afternoon round in placing 26th at 23-over 239.
The Cougars filled the 28th through 31st positions, Wintakorn Suwanmuang leading the way with 32-over 248 on 84-81-83 rounds. Two strokes back was Cooper Lucke after day one's 84 and 87 rounds followed by a closing 7-over par 79 for a combined 34-over 250. Mason Moore was one stroke back at 35-over 251 on 86-81-84 cards with Easton Fitzpatrick rounding out the squad at 43-over 259 following 89-84-86 rounds.
The Cougars have another short stint preparing for national implications in the NJCAA's South Central District Championships taking place April 28-29 at Tiffany Greens Golf Club in Kansas City, Missouri.
