Just a trace of snow is expected late Thursday night or early Friday morning, nothing compared to what Barton County and most of the state experienced this past weekend.
While citizens are bracing themselves for wind chills below zero degrees this week, Great Bend Public Works Director Jason Cauley said city crews are busy removing the snow that was plowed or graded.
"I'd like the public to know as we're doing the removal be attentive," said Cauley. "I know in the past, we've had some pretty close calls with people trying to get past us. Please be patient as we remove the snow."
Great Bend crews were out clearing roads for 13 hours on Sunday and another 11 hours on Monday.
"I do want to say thanks to all of our crews," said Cauley. "They did a lot of work and did a stellar job. I'm really proud of them."
Local law enforcement and state officials warned Barton County citizens to not drive on Kansas roads for a 48-hour stretch starting on Saturday. The Barton County Sheriff’s Office noted blowing and drifting snow, making it difficult for patrol units and wreckers in reaching stranded motorists.
