Mikayla Biermann hopes to bring culture of success of GBHS Girls' Sports to Basketball

Mikayla Biermann is walking into a job that hasn’t been super successful lately. The new head coach of Great Bend Girls basketball knows that the program has struggled over the last few seasons. That said, she knows what kind of athletes she has.

Appearing last week on 1590 KVGB and 95.5 FM's "Sports Day" program, Biermann said she wants to channel the success she's seen from other girls sports to the basketball court.

"That's one aspect that I love about looking into this program, a lot of these girls have it. You look on the softball field, you've seen it in the volleyball things in the past. The girls are there. I think we just have to keep enforcing it. And as a coaching staff, I think that's going to be on us to make practice engaging and positive.

"Whatever happens, win or lose, we're going to turn around and have that grit in us to turn around and keep going. The girls already have it, so I think it's just going to be us demanding that from them every single practice, every single rep, whenever things go right or things go wrong."

GBHS girls basketball begins summer workouts this week.
