Dateline –

Gloria May Nuss, a 29 year resident of Kettle Falls, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2021 in Colville, WA.  She was born on September 23, 1932 in Dodge City, KS to Hubert and Mary (Pizinger) Ailslieger.

Gloria grew up in Kansas graduating from Hoisington High School with the class of 1950.  It was in high school where she met Bill Nuss, the man she would eventually marry.  After graduation, Bill enlisted into the U.S. Navy and Gloria attended the Wesley Hospital School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas, where she graduated first in her class in 1953. Many letters were written between the two during their time apart until his honorable discharge brought him back to Hoisington where they were wed at the Methodist Church in Hoisington on September 4, 1955.  The newlywed couple moved to Texas while Bill attended Sam Houston State College and Gloria worked in the operating room for the local hospital.  Bill was hired by Westinghouse and that brought them to Athens, GA and it was there that they welcomed their two children, Debbie in 1958 and Scott in 1961.  The family spent several years in Georgia until a job opportunity with Boeing brought the family across the country to Bellevue, WA.  Wanting to get away from the rain and gray skies of the Seattle area, Gloria and Bill ventured to Kennewick, WA where they stayed until Bill’s retirement in 1988.  They made one last move in 1992 to Kettle Falls, WA to be near their daughter, Debbie and her family.  Gloria loved going to yard sales, antiquing and taking cruise ship vacations with Bill and visiting Scott and his wife Dena in Clearfield Utah, which usually included a trip to Wendover Nevada so Gloria could play the slot machines she enjoyed. Sadly, Bill passed away in 1997 and Gloria was never the same as he was the love and purpose of her life.  That void of his loss was filled with volunteering with the Mt. Carmel Auxiliary and Relay for Life, reading, crossword puzzles, and most importantly, spending time with her granddaughters, Shannon and Bridget, whom she was so very proud of.  Gloria joked that it was harder on her when these girls left home for college than when her own children left home. She was their biggest cheerleader during their years in college and graduate school, as they became a lawyer and veterinarian. Gloria was the epitome of a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and she will be greatly missed.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, brother, Herb and wife Jean Ailslieger, and nephew, Alex Ailslieger. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Rod) Barry in Kettle Falls, WA; son, Scott (Dena) Nuss in Clearfield, UT; grandchildren, Shannon Barry in Seattle, WA; Bridget Barry and fiancé Brady Reichert in Othello, WA; Sarah (Todd) Slater in Airway Heights, WA; step-grandchildren, Adam Brcko in Bountiful, UT; Angelique Brcko in Clearfield, UT; and Alexis Brcko-Anaya (Zack) in Clinton, UT; four great grandchildren, Liliana, Kennady, Lucas and Isaac Slater in Airway Heights, WA; and step-grandson Jesse Anaya in Clinton, UT. Also survived by brother, Ross (Sharon) Ailslieger in Wichita, KS; nephews, Paul (Suzanne) Ailslieger in Omaha, NE; and Kristafer (Rhonda) Ailslieger in Topeka, KS.

Gloria will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Bill in Hoisington, KS.  A graveside service is planned for 12 noon, Friday, May 28, 2021, at Hoisington City Cemetery, Hoisington, Kansas, with Pastor Chris Lehew presiding. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, Kansas 67530.
