Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) is inviting the Great Bend community to grab a free taco, cheer on the hometown team and learn more about electric vehicles during its upcoming “Let’s Taco ’Bout EVs!” event.
The free, come-and-go event will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, at Great Bend High School’s Memorial Stadium, 2027 Morton St., in conjunction with freshman and junior varsity football games.
Held in celebration of National Drive Electric Month (Sept. 11-Oct. 12), the event will give community members an opportunity to get an up-close look at several electric vehicles, enjoy complimentary tacos and get straightforward answers to common questions about EV ownership, including range, charging, maintenance and operating costs. Attendees can also enter to win a 550-watt, pet-friendly electric scooter valued at $500. The winner does not need to be present to win but must be an active WEC member in good standing.
WEC will have its all-electric Hyundai Kona Electric and Ford F-150 Lightning on display, along with a Ford Mustang Mach-E owned by a local EV driver. Attendees are welcome to explore the vehicles, learn more about the EV driving experience and visit with WEC representatives in a relaxed, pressure-free setting.
“We want this to be an easy, no-pressure way for people to experience EVs firsthand,” said Alli Conine, WEC’s director of member services and corporate communications. “Whether you have questions, want to explore whether an EV might fit your lifestyle, or simply want to enjoy a taco before the game and take a look at the vehicles, everyone is welcome.”
WEC also welcomes local EV drivers who would like to bring their own electric vehicles and share their firsthand experiences with attendees. EV owners interested in participating are encouraged to contact WEC as soon as possible so arrangements can be made in advance.
WEC has been providing hands-on EV education throughout its service territory for several years as part of its Driving Energy for Life initiative. In 2025, those efforts earned WEC national recognition as the recipient of Plug In America’s Drive Electric Utility Award.
National Drive Electric Month is a nationwide celebration designed to raise awareness about all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles and give consumers opportunities to learn more about driving electric.
There is no cost to attend WEC’s “Let’s Taco ’Bout EVs!” event. Community members are encouraged to come hungry and curious and enjoy tacos, high school football, and an opportunity to explore electric transportation firsthand.
