ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Brandon Aubrey kicked a 42-yard field goal as time expired after Dak Prescott rallied Dallas from a 21-point deficit and the Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21 in a mistake-filled thriller. The Cowboys converted on their third tiebreaking chance of the fourth quarter. The win extended Prescott’s home winning streak against NFC East opponents to 19 in Dallas' first game at AT&T Stadium since the death of defensive end Marshawn Kneeland. The Eagles are still in good shape to be repeat winners in the NFC East. But the Super Bowl champs' offense reverted to the form that has frustrated A.J. Brown.
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams scored 31 points in the first half and moved into sole possession of the NFC lead with a 34-7 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Davante Adams caught two of Matthew Stafford’s three touchdown passes, while Cobie Durant returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown to kick-start a dominant performance in the Rams' sixth consecutive victory. Stafford went 25 of 35 for 273 yards in his eighth consecutive interception-free game. Baker Mayfield threw two interceptions before sitting out the second half with a sprained left shoulder for the Buccaneers, who have lost three straight.
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has a sprained left shoulder. Mayfield was injured in the first half of the Bucs' 34-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night. Bucs coach Todd Bowles says Mayfield will have an MRI on Monday. Mayfield's left arm was in a sling as he congratulated the Rams’ Matthew Stafford after the game. Mayfield went into the medical tent after throwing a touchdown pass to wide receiver Tez Johnson in the second quarter, holding his non-throwing shoulder. He then appeared to aggravate the injury on a Hail Mary attempt at the end of the half. He was replaced by Teddy Bridgewater.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly has been fired after another poor offensive performance. The Raiders lost 24-10 to Cleveland on Sunday, allowing 10 sacks of Geno Smith. Coach Pete Carroll announced Kelly's dismissal just hours after the game. Carroll, in his first year with the Raiders, did not immediately name a new coordinator. Kelly reportedly received a $6 million contract, the highest for an NFL offensive coordinator. But the Raiders' offense ranks among the worst in the league, and it has regressed in recent weeks.
The Kansas City Chiefs saved their season. The Philadelphia Eagles gave critics more fuel. The Los Angeles Rams made a dominant statement. There are more questions than answers Sunday in the NFL. Patrick Mahomes did just enough to rally the Chiefs to a 23-20 overtime victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Kansas City’s dominant defense gave him the opportunity. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s unit forced the Colts to go three-and-out on their final four possessions. The Chiefs shut down the NFL’s leading rusher, holding Jonathan Taylor to 58 yards on 16 carries. Colts coach Shane Steichen inexplicably gave Taylor the ball only once on the last three drives of regulation.
NEW YORK (AP) — Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups is set to appear in a New York court on charges he profited from rigged poker games involving several Mafia figures and another former NBA player. The Hall of Famer will be arraigned in Brooklyn federal court Monday. Billups previously appeared before in an Oregon federal court when prosecutors announced the indictment on Oct. 23. His attorney said at the time that the five-time All Star was a “man of integrity” and denied the charges. Billups was arguably the most prominent name among more than 30 charged in last month’s sprawling federal takedown of illegal gambling operations linked to professional sports.
Oregon has returned to the top five in The Associated Press Top 25 college football poll. Ohio State, Indiana, and Texas A&M remain the top three teams for a sixth straight week with Georgia at No. 4. Oregon jumped to No. 5 after a 15-point victory over Southern California. Mississippi follows at No. 6. Miami moved up to No. 13 to lead five ACC teams in the rankings. Georgia Tech dropped to No. 23 after losing to Pittsburgh. Ohio State holds the No. 1 spot for a 13th straight week.
The state of Utah is having a banner college football season. BYU is 10-1 and ranked No. 11. Utah is 9-2 and No. 14. This is the third straight week and ninth ever that the Cougars and Utes have been in the top 15 of The Associated Press poll simultaneously. Don't expect the fan bases to step back and admire what the other team is doing. The BYU-Utah rivalry is one of the most vicious in college sports. A longtime Salt Lake City sports columnist said the fan bases' mutual disdain will never evolve into mutual respect.
CHICAGO (AP) — Aaron Rodgers might own the Chicago Bears, but the Pittsburgh Steelers don't. Rodgers was sidelined by a broken left wrist on Sunday. Mason Rudolph started in his place and tried to rally the Steelers late, but they came up short in a 31-28 loss. Rodgers got hurt last week in a win over Cincinnati. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says it was a “prudent decision” to sit Rodgers. He thinks the veteran quarterback should be ready next weekend, when Pittsburgh hosts Buffalo. The Steelers fell to 6-5 and into a first-place tie with the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Dak Prescott has become the franchise leader in yards passing for the Dallas Cowboys, moving past Tony Romo with a 9-yard completion to George Pickens on his first throw of the second half against Philadelphia. Prescott replaced Romo as the starter when he was a rookie in 2016 after Romo was injured in a preseason game. He led the Cowboys on an 11-game winning streak and never gave the job back. The completion to Pickens broke Romo’s record of 34,183 yards passing.
