Marty Schloemer, age 74

Marty Schloemer, 74, passed away peacefully January 10, 2026, at her home in Great Bend, Kan. She was born August 11, 1951, in Great Bend, to Oren L. and Ruby F. (Asher) Phillips. Marty married Darwin Schloemer Aug. 30, 1969, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend. He survives.

Marty had been a resident of Great Bend for many years; however, she had spent her more formative years in Hoisington, graduating from Hoisington High School in 1969. She then furthered her education at Barton Community College, then later earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Sterling College. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend Pilot Club, and the Zeta Gamma Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. She most recently worked as a Special Education Paraprofessional at Lyons Central Grade School and previously worked in the social services field for the Barton County Health Department, Hoisington Nursing Home and Clara Barton Hospital. Marty's love for her community and compassionate heart was displayed through countless hours of volunteering as a Pink Lady at Clara Barton Hospital, crossing guard at Morrison School and serving as co-director for Big Brothers and Big Sisters and den mother for her boys' Boy Scout troop.

Marty is survived by her husband, Darwin Schloemer; two sons, Damon Schloemer and wife Donna of Lakewood, Wash., and Devin Schloemer and fiancée Annie Whaley of Lyons; two brothers, Dale Phillips and wife Rhonda of Great Bend, and Loren Phillips and wife Cindy of Great Bend; sister in law Rose Phillips of Iowa; four grandchildren, Deborah Schloemer-Frazer and husband Talbert, Darian Schloemer and fiancé Bryant Woelk, Breanne Schloemer and Colton Schloemer; four great grandchildren, Weston, Preston, Madilynn and Sarel. Marty was also survived by Darwin’s brother, Denton Schloemer and his wife Becky, and Darwin’s sister, Karen Shaner and her husband Dale. She was preceded in death by brother, Darrell Phillips and brother-in-law, Darren Schloemer.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2026, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. David Hales presiding. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Great Bend. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Bryant Funeral Home, with the family present to receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Great Bend Pilot Club, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
