KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Encouraging fans to get inside Neyland Stadium earlier than usual with President Donald Trump coming to Tennessee's college football game against Texas sure worked Saturday. Fans in their seats got to see Air Force One fly over the stadium on the way to the nearby airport. Disruptions caused by Trump’s visit could go all the way to the game on the field. Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian said this week that when a president attends a game, security will shut down the teams' sideline headset communications whenever he comes in the stadium, leaves or just moves around. And it could happen in critical moments of a tight game.

The action kicks off with No. 1 Texas visiting No. 14 Tennessee. President Donald Trump and Peyton Manning are expected to attend. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Stephen Curry has agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $116 million that would take him through the 2028-29 season. That's according to a person with direct knowledge of the deal who spoke to The Associated Press on Friday night. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Warriors had not announced the terms of Curry's contract. Curry was eligible to command up to $136 million, so he is giving his team a discount as he backs up his longstanding commitment to finish his career with the Warriors. He is a two-time MVP and the NBA career leader in 3-pointers.
MEDINAH, Ill. (AP) — The Internationals delivered another sweep in foursomes and have the Americans on their heels in the Presidents Cup. Nick Taylor hit a 9-iron to a foot to save par on the 18th hole as he and fellow Canadian Corey Conners took down Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns. British Open champion Ryan Fox holed two key birdie putts and closed out a par as he and Min Woo Lee toppled Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark. The sweep means the Internationals have a 7-3 lead. It's their largest after two sessions since 1998. That's the only year they won the Presidents Cup.
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Workers were still trimming the turf at Maracana Stadium on Saturday, less than 30 hours before the NFL’s first game in Rio de Janeiro between the Dallas Cowboys and the Baltimore Ravens. Some were using scissors to level the high grass, an effort that should end hours before the game. The Maracana’s turf has been a concern for almost two weeks due to its poor shape amid a long season in Brazilian soccer. Local clubs, Flamengo and Fluminense, play there at least once a week. Maracana workers were using mows and scissors, big and small, to perfect the turf for the game.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin are atop the NASCAR Cup Series standings as the playoffs continue this weekend at Kansas. Larson holds a single-point lead over Hamlin after Bristol as each of them head to one of their favorite tracks. Hamlin has four wins at the mile-and-a-half oval, while Larson has three, making them the favorites for Sunday's race. Rain washed out practice and qualifying on Saturday, so the starting lineup was determined by a metric that involves results and ownership points. That put Larson and Hamlin near the front, with Bristol winner Joey Logano on the pole.

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has issued a direct message to supporters as the club faces the potential of losing its landmark case with the Premier League over alleged financial breaches. City has reportedly been found guilty of nearly all of the 100-plus charges against the club which could result punishments such as a huge points deduction or even expulsion from English soccer’s top division. The club has always denied wrongdoing and Al Mubarak restated that stance in a letter to fans.
Pressure to boycott upcoming Nations League games against Israel over that country’s actions in Gaza has taken its toll on the Ireland team with players ultimately putting their participation to a vote. Ireland is due to play Israel in Debrecen, Hungary in the first of those games Sunday, but the team’s press conference and training session Saturday were delayed as players again held discussions over whether they should play. David Courell, the CEO of the Football Association of Ireland, says a vote was taken and “a significant majority” are in favor of continuing. Goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu reportedly told the team he did not want to play. He was not mentioned in the press conference but it appears he has left the squad. Ireland's players will wear black armbands.
PARIS (AP) — Pope Leo XIV is a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan but also knows better than to wade too deep into sporting rivalries. The pontiff trod very carefully when asked whether he had a hand in the team's improbable return to the playoffs on Thursday. He smiled and said, "No comment." But he also left no doubt that he was thrilled, by adding: "Great things happen in Chicago." The pontiff's diplomatic response reflects his awareness of the potential pitfalls of showing favoritism.
