Gwenda Gail Deines, 80, died June 27, 2023, at Clara Barton Medical Center, Hoisington. She was born Sept. 18, 1942, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Randall “Tony” and Winifred “Winnie” (Shyrer) Chambers. Gwenda was a 1960 graduate of Hoisington High School. She went on to graduate from beauty school in Wichita.
On May 29, 1961, she married Jerry D. Deines, in Hoisington; they later divorced.
Gwenda worked as a ward clerk for Clara Barton Hospital for many years, officially retiring in 2012, but, unofficially, continued to work whenever they needed her. Her love of reading then led her to a position at the Hoisington Public Library, which she greatly enjoyed. She was an avid crafter, and enjoyed creating all sorts of things, especially her handmade greeting cards, which she liked sending to family and friends.
She was a current member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hoisington, and was a past board member and served on the altar guild. She was former member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Hoisington, where she had taught Midweek School and VBS. In her earlier years, she was active in the 21st Century EHU and several bowling leagues in both Hoisington and Great Bend. She loved attending Hoisington Cardinal sporting events as well as watching Kansas Jayhawks basketball.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Stambaugh and husband Jerry, and Laura Deines, all of Hoisington; brother, Mike Chambers of Hoisington; brother-in-law, Jim Adams of Hoisington; three grandchildren, Macy Reinert and husband Logan of Great Bend, Nash Stambaugh of Lawrence, and Jessica Mullens and husband Trey of Aledo, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Tess, London, Nolan, and Landry Mullens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Gloria Adams, and sister-in-law, Alyce Chambers.
Visitation will be 1 to 7 p.m., Sunday, with family to greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 3, 2023, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, with Rhonda Templing SAM presiding. Burial will follow in Hoisington City Cemetery.
