Both District 112 and District 113 in the Kansas House of Representatives include local candidates seeking a seat in the upcoming elections. Jo Ann Roth, a democrat, faces off against incumbent Brett Fairchild, a Repulican, in District 113.
Attending last week’s candidate forum in Great Bend hosted by the League of Women Voters, Roth made it clear on one of her main reasons for running for the position.
"After getting married, my husband and I experienced infertility issues," said Roth. "I've heard from many women about their issues of infertility and miscarriages. My chief reason for being active in politics is my belief that we should not accept an increase in maternal deaths due to politicians denying women bodily autonomy in their healthcare choice."
Fairchild did not attend the forum hosted at the Great Bend Senior Center.
