Big 12 Sports
For the first time since 2003 and only the second time in Conference history, the Big 12 received two No. 1 seeds in the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. Top seeds Kansas and Baylor are joined in the tournament field by No. 3 seed Texas Tech, No. 6 seed Texas, No. 9 seed TCU and No. 11 seed Iowa State.
The Big 12’s six selections are tied for the second-most among leagues. The Big 12 has had six or more NCAA Championship teams in 18 of 25 years, including nine seasons since 2012. From 2014-22, the Big 12 has 53 selections, the third-best total of any conference. Kansas earned the Big 12’s automatic berth after winning the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship. The Jayhawks and Baylor shared the regular season title.
All 10 Big 12 coaches have guided a team to the NCAA Championship. Sixty percent of schools have played in a Final Four, the best in the nation among conferences. Baylor is the defending national champion after claiming the title in 2021. Big 12 teams have played in the last three Final Fours and past two national championship games.
