James Calvin Asher was born July 12, 1944, to parents Beverly Junior Asher and Alma Ella(Conwell) Asher in Stafford, Kansas. He died September 16, 2022, at the age of 78 in Livermore, California. Jim was the second of four children. He was raised on a farm near Stafford with his siblings and graduated from Stafford High School in 1962. Jim started college after high school, then married Anne (Williams) and they moved to Texas for employment. He earned his business degree from the University of Houston. They raised their two girls, Kathleen and Karen, in Texas, Louisiana, and California.
In 1990, Jim moved back to California where he met and married Janet Keaster in 1991, gaining a stepson, Michael Keaster. Michael went off to college and Jim and Jan moved to Texas for Jim’s new job opportunity, settling in Flower Mound for the next 27 years.
Jim loved his family. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. He was an avid gardener and golfer. For many years he was a rock hound. He enjoyed playing games, especially card games, and perusing antique stores for his next treasure. He retired from Sr. Metal Bellows in 2009,enabling Jim and Jan to travel and visit many places, including Australia, New Zealand, and Africa.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Beverly and Ella Asher. He is survived by his wife, Janet; daughters Kathleen Putman (Mike) and Karen Villarreal (Tony), and stepson Michael Keaster; grandchildren Ian, Julianna, and Mikayla Putman, Ashleigh Hart, and Riley Douglas. He is also survived by all of his siblings Larry Asher (Phyllis), Barbara Hildebrand (Jerry), and Don Asher (Gayla), and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Friday, November 24, 2023, in the Oak/Pecan Room at the Holiday Inn East, 549 South Rock Road, Wichita, KS 67207. We would enjoy seeing you as we honor Jim, our loved one who is so missed. Join us at 10 am for the service and lunch following.
