Kyle Kriegh will be the new boys basketball coach at Great Bend High School. The USD 428 School Board approved Kriegh's contract at the end of Monday's meeting.

Kriegh takes over for Tim Brooks who retired at the end of last season.

Kriegh returns to Great Bend where he had been the boys basketball coach at Great Bend Middle School. Before that he was the girls basketball coach at Ellinwood High School and was the last coach to defeat the Central Plains girls before they reeled off 138 straight wins.

Kriegh has been the head boys coach at Kingman High School for the past three seasons where his teams posted a record of 28-34. His most successful season leading the Eagles was in his first year in 2018-2019 when he led Kingman to a record of 17-6 and a berth in the 3A State Basketball Tournament. The Eagles beat Wichita Collegiate in the Sub-State championship game before losing in the first round of state to Girard 57-40. It was Kingman's first state appearance since 2004.

Kriegh's wife Maggie, will also join him in working in the Great Bend school district. The board approved her contract Monday night to be a special education teacher at Jefferson elementary.
