A Kansas Department of Transportation project to replace the traffic signals on U.S. 56 at the corner of 10th Street and McKinley in Great Bend will begin June 2.
The project will reduce traffic from two lanes to one through the intersection, first on the north side (westbound) and then on the south side (eastbound) in alternating phases. The side not being worked on will continue having two lanes for motorists. The speed limit will remain 35 mph through the construction zone.
Work is expected to be completed by mid-September, weather permitting.
Phillips Southern Electric Company Inc., based in Wichita, is the primary contractor on the nearly $900,000 project.
For more information, contact Mitch Jenkins, Area Superintendent at 620-793-5408.
KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones.
