Marshall Reece, age 69

Marshall P. Reece, 69, passed away March 14, 2023, at Azria Health in Great Bend. He was born on Jan. 21, 1954, in Kansas City, Mo. to Jack and Frances (Pagano) Reece. He graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School and attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Mo., and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He then studied on and received his Master’s of Public Administration from Rockhurst University and graduated from the Wyoming Department of Corrections Academy. He married Rochelle Luckey on July 7, 1997, in Las Vegas, Nev. She died March 2, 2003.

Marshall was proud of his life’s work and certifications, including his Kansas Emergency Substitute Teacher’s License, Pharmacy Technician License for Kansas and Missouri, FCC Radiotelegraph Operator License and Amateur Radio Extra Class Licenses. He was the Business Manger and Interim Superintendent of Larned States Hospital, Wyoming State Penitentiary Business Manager and Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp Business Manager.

Marshall also spent his life volunteering and dedicating his time through many civil defense agencies, including Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue, The Catz Meow Cat Transport, Underground Railroad: Rescued Kitty Network, the International Cat Association, the Miniature Horse Association, American Radio Relay League, Kaw Valley Amateur Radio Club, Larned Volunteer Fire Department, and Kansas Peace Officers Association. He was also the dispatcher and emergency communications operator for the Larned Police Department, Edwards County Sheriff's Department and Kiowa County Sheriff's Department.

Survivors include his daughter at heart, Renee McVey of Macksville; his many friends and supporters including, his best buddy Bill Clapham and Scott King both of Larned, Kendal and Lorena Lothman of Haviland; as well as his loving fur babies: Spyder, Peake and George who are located at the Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue in Wyoming, currently. He was preceded in death by his parents; and loving wife, Rochelle.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, March 31, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeffrey Owen presiding. Inurnment will be in the Soldier Creek Cemetery in Belvidere, Kan. Memorials have been designated to the Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
