During this week’s meeting, the Barton County Commission officially proclaimed April 19–25, 2026, as National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, reaffirming its commitment to supporting victims and strengthening communities.

Presented by Camila Komarek, Barton County Attorney’s Victims Advocate, the proclamation highlights the importance of recognizing the impact of crime on individuals, families, and communities, while continuing to promote resources, services, and protections for those affected.

This year’s theme, “Listen. Act. Advocate.", serves as a powerful reminder that supporting victims requires more than awareness. It calls on communities to actively listen to survivors, respond with meaningful action, and advocate for policies and systems that uphold victims’ rights.

The proclamation emphasizes the importance of creating safe and supportive environments where victims feel heard and respected. It also highlights the need for continued collaboration among local agencies, service providers, and community partners to ensure victims have access to the resources they need.

By recognizing National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Barton County joins communities across the nation in honoring those who have worked to advance victims’ rights while recommitting to efforts that promote healing, justice, and support for all.

The Commission’s proclamation reflects an ongoing dedication to protecting victims and fostering a community where every voice is heard and valued.
