Cropland can be quite susceptible to wind erosion under some conditions. Winter wheat and other fall-planted crop fields also may be susceptible during periods of low cover in the winter and early spring. Recent wind conditions have been conducive to erosion given the peak wind gusts that have been recorded in Kansas over the last few days. On Thursday the maximum wind speed recorded at the Agricultural Research Center – Hays was 45 mph. https://mesonet.k-state.edu/weather/maxmin/
