Another quality-of-life sales tax project in Great Bend is getting closer to completion. A project originally slated for 2023, improvements at the dog park at Veterans Memorial Park have progressed.

At last weeks’ Great Bend City Council meeting, now City Administrator Logan Burns said the project will provide separate areas for large and small dogs.

"This was a quality-of-life project to separate the small and large dogs," said Burns. "The fencing is complete on that. We're just waiting on the dog water and sidewalk to complete that project."

Earlier this summer, the council approved an $8,900 bid from Eldridge Fencing for the installation of 384' of 4'-chain-link fencing. The slab of concrete added and making the watering station usable for both sides put the project at $10,000.

The additional fencing did not expand the dog park; instead, the project divided the existing footprint into two sections.
