The Barton Community College softball team made a rare trip to northeast Kansas on Wednesday in dropping 5-1 and 8-2 contests at Division II No. 8 ranked Johnson County Community College.
The host Cavaliers put game one's decisive four runs on the board in the second inning then in the nightcap plated another four in their first at-bat with another three crossing in the second frame as the Cougars stranded eleven runners preventing a comeback.
Barton slips to 2-6 on the year in final preparation for conference play beginning Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Dodge City Community College. Johnson County improves to 5-3 on the season.
Laci Dryden led the Cougars' fourteen hits on the afternoon with a trio of connections, 2-for-3 in the opener including driving in Barton's lone run in the third frame of the opener before driving in sister Lani Dryden with a two-out triple slicing the deficit to 4-2 in the second inning of nightcap.
Allyson McDougal drove in the Cougars' other run on the day by putting Barton briefly out-front in game two on a one-out, first frame hit scoring Laci's leadoff walk.
