L&M Contractors in Great Bend plans to start working on the box bridge widening project on NW 10 Avenue on Monday, Aug. 4. The bridge is located approximately one half-mile north of the Great Bend city limits on North McKinley.

Barton County Engineer Barry McManaman said L&M will remove the steel bridge rail and widen the concrete drainage structure six feet on both sides of the road.  The county road and bridge crew will then construct the wider earth shoulders over the new concrete extensions.

The road will remain open to traffic during construction, but motorists are asked to slow down and use caution when driving through the work zone.  The project is anticipated to last six to eight weeks.
