2 hospitalized after motorcycles collide in Barton County

BARTON COUNTY—Two people were injured in an accident just after 11a.m. Saturday in Barton County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2011 Harley Davidson FLS Series Motorcycle driven by Ben E. Newell, 70, Hudson, was southbound on U.S. 281 three miles north of U.S. 56 in a group of motorcycles.

The 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle struck a southbound 2016 Harley Davidson FLH Series motorcycle driven by Jason L. Ghumm, 51, Stafford, who had slowed and moved into the northbound lane to recover his baseball cap that flew off his head.

EMS transported Newell to Wesley Medical Center and Ghumm to the hospital in Great Bend. The riders had eye protection but were not wearing helmets, according to the KHP.
