Great Bend Post Sports
Call it a baker's dozen. Lady Panther sophomore Braelyn Turner struck out 13 Dodge City batters in a 15-3 game-one win against the Red Demons Tuesday at the Sports Complex. Freshman Chayla Prendergast added 12 strikeouts as Great Bend took game two 8-0 to move to 10-1 on the season.
Great Bend scored in all four at-bats in game one, including six runs in the first inning and five more in the third to set up the run-rule in the fifth. Turner allowed three earned runs on four hits and walked one batter to go with the strikeouts.
The Lady Panthers took advantage of some errors and passed balls in the big first inning. Kya Behr doubled in a run in the third, and Denver Ringo added an RBI-single.
Ringo, Behr and DeShawnna Bryant each singled and doubled in the win. Ringo drove in three and scored once. Camdyn Post singled twice, driving in two and scoring twice. Paige Thexton tripled and walked to finish with an RBI and two runs. Kamryn Koelsch and Ava Kaiser each singled and walked twice.
Turner set the bar high in the circle and Prendergast kept it there in game two, allowing no runs on five hits with the dozen punchouts.
Game two remained competitive through five innings as the Lady Panthers scored a single run in the first and two more in the third to lead 3-0. Great Bend opened the floodgates with a 5-run fifth that included RBI-singles from Prendergast and Post.
Behr doubled twice and singled, coming around to score three times. Post added a single to finish with a pair of RBIs and a run scored. All nine Lady Panther batters in the lineup finished the game with at least one hit.
Great Bend travels to Dodge City for a single game on Thursday.
