The City of Great Bend website always has available job openings, and Monday’s city council meeting allowed department heads to mention the positions they are looking to fill. Police Chief Steve Haulmark said his department is short three police officers, and the rate of pay for an officer could range from $21 to $30 per hour.

Because of a recent retirement, Fire Chief Brent Smith said his department is hoping to lock down a replacement.

"We have one position open in the fire department right now," said Smith. "With the retirement of Rick Robison in February, we have interviewed two for that position. We're working through the process now to figure out who is the best fit for us. Hopefully in the next few weeks we'll have that position filled."

There are 26 lifeguards hired for the swim season that starts in May at the Wetlands Waterpark, and Public Lands Director Scott Keeler said the city would like to hire about four more lifeguards.
