Tom Gehring of Weisenhorn, Germany and Jaycee Patton of Medicine Lodge were named Barton Community College’s 2022 Outstanding Graduates. Dean of Student Services Angie Maddy recognized them as part of Barton’s commencement on Friday.
Gehring came to Barton to study business and compete as part of the Barton Men’s Golf Team. He is the son of Tania and Walter Gehring of Weisenhorn. In addition to his participation on the golf team, Tom was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society and the Community Student Organization/SPARK student groups. Tom served in a student employment position as a peer tutor in the Student Support Services Tutoring Lab, providing academic assistance to other students in multiple subject areas. He plans to continue his education and is still determining his transfer university. He hopes to one day continue his golf career into the professional arena and has the long-term goal of owning his own business.
Patton is the daughter of Kristi Patton of Medicine Lodge and Monty Patton of Park City. She came to Barton to study agricultural business and play outfield on the Barton Softball Team. In addition to softball, she also participated in the Collegiate Farm Bureau student organization. She has already accepted a full-time position with BTI John Deere in Pratt, which she will begin later this month. While beginning her career, she will continue with her education as well, working toward her bachelor’s degree with Fort Hays State University in agricultural business.
