Great Bend Bombers Baseball 15U team won the Legends Series USSSA Open Tournament at 3 & 2 Complex in the Kansas City. This tournament featured 10 teams from Kansas and Missouri.
Bombers Baseball went 1-0-1 in pool play and then finished on Sunday going 3-0. Bombers beat out the #1 and #2 Missouri ranked 15U open teams in this tournament and now hold the number 1 spot in Kansas for 15U open teams in the USSSA rankings.
Bombers pitchers held the teams to a .203 batting average, struck out 27 and only gave up eight runs. The defense only committed one error on the weekend. The hitters did equally well by batting .486 as a team and scoring 54 runs.
“This team is fun to watch when all three areas of the game are going well," said Chris Umphres, coach of the Bombers 15U. "We played some very good teams this weekend and I was impressed with how the team responded in their first tournament of the season. We have played some older teams during the week and that has really prepared us when we play teams our age.”
Landon “Ski” Sciacca has joined the coaching staff this year along with Zack Kaiser and Chris Herrman.
