After some lengthy meetings in recent weeks, the Great Bend City Council agenda for tonight’s meeting at City Hall features just five agenda items. City Administrator Logan Burns will provide his usual update, and Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Amanda Gaddis will provide her monthly report.
The council will also consider a parking change at the intersection of 9th and Kansas Avenue. Clear sightlines at traffic intersections are essential for the safety of both pedestrians and motorists. Visibility around corners can be obstructed by a variety of factors, including parked vehicles, which may increase the risk of collisions. Parked vehicles at the northeast corner of 9th and Kansas can significantly restrict visibility for pedestrians and motorists traveling westbound on 9th. The Great Bend Police Department has requested making the area a no-parking zone, which would result in the removal of the current six parking stalls.
The council will also have an easy vote pertaining to a dragstrip amendment. An original contract for construction at the SRCA Dragstrip stated any savings would be shared equally between the city of Great Bend and Bartlett & West. Upon completion of the project, there were $72,945.15 in savings. Tonight, the council will vote on an amendment to reduce the contract with Bartlett & West by half of those savings, or $36,472.58.
