Everyone has good days and bad days. In sports, bad days will often lose you games. But, even through the bad days, Ellinwood volleyball managed to avoid the landmines and pull through, almost always with lopsided margins.
The Lady Eagles never had an off day as a team en route to 94 straight wins, the nation's longest active streak in the sport. Head coach of the Lady Eagles Greg Maxwell says it's what impresses him most about his group.
"That is probably the thing I'm most proud of these girls is, every day we talk about that, when they come to practice, every drill, every rep, every touch, then obviously on game nights. Whoever we're playing, we try to value every single aspect of this game. And that's how you grow, that's how you get better.
"With a couple of weeks left in the season, and I even made this comment to them, I said 'You guys could probably not do a whole lot over the next two weeks and you'd still be the favorite to win state.' But we obviously didn't think like that at all. We continued to work, and even in that last day, we're still trying to get better in practice. So we were going into a situation where there was no hoping involved. It was knowing. Confidence. We had that belief that we were going to do everything we could at the highest level. And, like I said, these girls. They've done that for two years back to back now."
