Great Bend Post Sports
Great Bend's run on the volleyball court continues. The Lady Panthers played their final regular-season home matches of the season Saturday, winning their own invitational and moving to 18-1 on the season. Three of the four wins came in straight sets, giving Great Bend 15 straight-set wins on the season.
Great Bend downed Wichita Southeast 25-16, 25-15. Junior Cassie Ellegood had seven kills and senior Makenzie Premer followed with four. Senior Lauryn Davis and freshman Kya Behr each had three aces. Senior Sadie Spray led the back row with 11 digs, followed by Behr with nine and senior Paige Thexton with eight. Behr had 15 assists.
The Lady Panthers downed Hutchinson 25-23, 25-17. Spray and Premer each had five kills, and senior Emilee Hall added four. Davis and Behr again had three aces apiece. Spray finished with eight digs and senior Macy Nachtigal added six. Behr led the way with 10 assists.
Great Bend defeated Liberal 25-12, 25-14. Spray led a balanced offensive attack with six kills, followed by Premer, Behr, and junior Kara Feist with five each. Ellegood and sophomore Denver Ringo each added four. Behr had the big service match with four of the team's five aces. Behr, Spray, and Thexton each had eight digs, and Behr had 17 assists.
The Lady Panthers needed three sets to get by Newton 25-21, 23-25, 25-18 in the title match. Feist and Ellegood each had eight kills, and Spray and Behr each added four. The defense piled up 12 blocks in the match, led by five each from Ellegood and Spray, and three each from Feist and Behr. Spray and Nachtigal led a busy back row with 15 digs, followed by Behr with 14, Thexton with 12, and Davis with 10. Behr again led the team with 16 assists.
Great Bend sits at 18-1. The Lady Panthers have double-digit losses in 20 of the last 21 seasons. Since 1989, Great Bend has played eight seasons with single-digit losses. The team plays at Goddard on Tuesday.
