If you have a young kid that is craving more Christmas-themed events, there are not many bigger than Santa’s Workshop hosted by the Great Bend Recreation Commission. The 27th annual festivity is Monday, Dec. 4, in the Great Bend City Auditorium from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
GBRC Enrichment Director Garet Fitzpatrick said children from preschool to sixth grade can participate in holiday-themed booths and visit with Santa Claus.
"We came out of COVID last year and changed the format," said Fitzpatrick. "We have tried to make it more of a fun-family event. There are a lot of photo-ops. We're still doing the crafts, cookies and jingle bell necklaces. We'll of course have Santa Claus."
The free Christmas event will include entertainers from Happy Faces Entertainment from Kansas City performing comedy acts, and Olaf will be in attendance too.
Fitzpatrick said a less chaotic version of Santa’s Workshop will be available Monday too.
"There are a lot of people at this event, and it can be a little bit overwhelming," said Fitzpatrick. "Back in the Burnside Room, we do have some organizations that have more laid-back crafts. It's not so crazy busy."
