GLMV Architecture is working with the Kansas Department of Health and
Environment (KDHE) for approved building plans for a $1.6 million group daycare
center in Great Bend.
Great Bend Economic Development Director Sara Arnberger said GLMV designed a
4,500 square-foot daycare center to serve up to 59 children.
"We have meetings with GLMV every two weeks to keep adjusting," said Arnberger. "The next step will be going out for contractors. We've had a lot of interest, which is positive about people reaching out wanting to be a part of it."
The daycare will be located on Farmers Plaza Lane, just south of 10th
Street near the K-96 Highway intersection. The facility is expected to be the
first of multiple daycares built around Barton County.
A recent study showed approximately 700 spots are needed for childcare in
Barton County beyond what is currently available.
