The Kansas Department of Corrections is in the final stages of developing a new database called Athena.

According to Ryan Lichter, Community Case Manager in Juvenile Services in the 20th Judicial District says Athena will document everything in one central place regardless where the offenses occur.

“If Johnny, for instance, gets in trouble in Barton County, and then he’s over in Riley County and gets in trouble. Riley County will be able to see Johnny’s history in other counties. It helps the other agencies know what’s going on because right now if Johnny gets in trouble here and in Riley County, it’s very likely they won’t know what’s going on because they don’t have the information in front of them.”

Lichter says the program is a Kansas initiative that originated in Topeka and only those connected with the Kansas Department of Corrections will have access.

The database is scheduled to be rolled out in early 2021.
