KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce plans to play next season rather than retire.

The 35-year-old Kelce had been mulling whether to return for a 13th season. But the four-time All-Pro made his feelings clear in a text to Pat McAfee that the host read during “The Pat McAfee Show” on Thursday.

“My dawg!!! I'm coming back for sure,” the four-time All-Pro wrote, according to McAfee. “Gonna try to get to the best shape I've been this offseason and get back to the mountaintop. Got a real bad taste in my mouth about how I played in that last game and how I got the guys ready for battle. I can't go out like that!!!!”

The Chiefs’ quest to become the first team to win three straight Super Bowls ended with a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 9.

Kelce professed his love for football several times leading up to the Super Bowl. But he also said on his podcast he would “take some time” to figure out if he would retire or return for another season.

Kelce's decision is hardly a surprise, considering Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said Tuesday at the NFL combine that he was "“was fired up” to keep playing after the season ended.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Alejandro helped lead UAB past Wichita State on Thursday night with 29 points off of the bench in an 80-72 win.

Vasquez shot 11 of 22 from the field, including 1 for 4 from 3-point range, and went 6 for 6 from the free-throw line for the Blazers (19-9, 12-3 American Athletic Conference). Christian Coleman added 14 points while shooting 4 of 10 from the field and 6 for 7 from the foul line. Yaxel Lendeborg shot 4 of 6 from the field and 2 for 6 from the free-throw line to finish with 11 points, while adding eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

Corey Washington finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and three blocks for the Shockers (17-11, 7-8). Wichita State also got 17 points from Xavier Bell. Quincy Ballard finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds. The Shockers ended a six-game winning streak with the loss.

UAB took the lead with 7:12 to go in the first half and did not give it up. The score was 39-34 at halftime, with Vasquez racking up 11 points. Vasquez scored 18 points in the second half to help lead UAB to an eight-point victory.

Fla. (AP) — Jake Knapp has joined the PGA Tour’s sub-60 club.
Knapp — the 99th-ranked player in the world — shot a bogey-free
59 in the opening round of the Cognizant Classic at PGA National on
Thursday. It's the 15th time that someone has broken 60 in a PGA Tour
event. Knapp finished one shot off the tour scoring record of 58,
done by Jim Furyk in the final round of the 2016 Travelers
Championship. Knapp became the 14th player to shoot a sub-60 round.
Furyk is the only one to do it twice.

For the second straight day the Barton Community College baseball team benefitted behind a fast start as the Cougars completed its three-game sweep with another run-rule victory over the reserved squad of Tabor College.

Scoring a combined 11 first inning runs in Tuesday's doubleheader sweep, the Barton bats continued the trend on Wednesday afternoon at Lawson-Biggs Field putting up a five run first inning and never looked back in picking up a sixth-inning 13-3 victory over the Blue Jays.

Improving to 4-1 on the young season, the Cougars will embark on a three-game road trip beginning Friday at 3:00 p.m. against Kansas City Kansas Community College before concluding the series Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. twinbill.

Tyler Janssen, Hunter Alvord and Cooper Tabor each finished with two hits apiece to lead Barton's multi-hit performances.

Janssen's leadoff double to open the game sparked the big inning with two of five Blue Jay errors extending the frame setting up Barrett Donaldson's two-out triple plating a pair to cap the five-run first.

Fast start guides Barton Baseball to series sweep over Tabor JV

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Keyshawn Hall scored 26 points and Darius Garland scored 23 points and UCF held on to beat Kansas State 80-76 on Wednesday night.

Mountaineer women’s player in likely her final game inside the WVU
Coliseum. Quinerly scored 14 points in the first half to help build a
30-18 lead. She scored 15 of West Virginia’s 21 third-quarter
points, including a steal and fast-break layup for a 51-36 lead
entering the fourth. Quinerly made a 3-pointer from the corner with

program's sixth Big East regular-season championship and can wrap up
an outright league crown Saturday with a victory over Seton Hall at
Madison Square Garden or a Creighton loss at Xavier. The only
outright Big East regular-season title for St. John’s came in 1985
on the way to a Final Four appearance.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) —
The NFL is considering changing overtime rules in the regular season
to decrease the advantage for teams who win the coin toss. League
executive Troy Vincent said the competition committee agrees overtime
rules need to be addressed. Receiving the ball first has become more
of an advantage than pre-2011, when overtime was sudden death. Both
teams currently have an opportunity to possess the ball in overtime
unless a touchdown is scored on the first possession. The rules are
different in the playoffs. Also, the NFL plans to use its virtual
measuring system to determine first downs in 2025, although officials
will still spot the ball by hand.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) —
The Miami Dolphins are the top-ranked team, followed by the Minnesota
Vikings, for the second consecutive season in the NFL Players
Association report card. The Atlanta Falcons, Las Vegas Raiders and
Los Angeles Chargers round out the top five in the third annual NLPA
report card released Wednesday at the NFL scouting combine. The
Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, New England
Patriots and Arizona Cardinals were the bottom five. JC Tretter, the
NFLPA’s chief strategy officer, said 1,695 players responded to the
survey, an average of 52 players per team and 77% of the union’s
membership. The report cards were compiled between Aug. 26 and Nov.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP)
— Dodgers manager Dave Roberts says three-time MVP Shohei Ohtani
will make his first spring training appearance of the year on Friday
night. That will be against his old team, the Los Angeles Angels.
Ohtani will be the designated hitter. Roberts has not given a
timetable for Ohtani’s return to the pitching mound other than to
say he hopes it would be “sooner than later”. Roberts has ruled
Ohtani out for the season-opening series in Tokyo on March 18-19.
Ohtani injured his left shoulder sliding into second base during the
World Series. He did not pitch last season while recovering from
surgery to repair a ligament in his throwing elbow.

PHOENIX (AP) — Diana Taurasi is retiring after 20 seasons, ending one of the greatest careers in women's basketball history.

The WNBA's career scoring leader and a three-time league champion, Taurasi announced her retirement on Tuesday in an interview with Time magazine. The Phoenix Mercury — the only WNBA team she played for — also confirmed her decision.

“Mentally and physically, I’m just full,” Taurasi told Time. “That’s probably the best way I can describe it. I’m full and I’m happy.”

With her taut hair bun and supreme confidence, Taurasi inspired a generation of players while racking up records and championships.

Taurasi led UConn to three straight national titles from 2001-04 and kept on winning after the Mercury selected her with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2004 WNBA draft.

“It’s hard to put into words, it really is, what this means. When someone’s defined the game, when someone’s had such an impact on so many people and so many places. You can’t define it with a quote,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. “It’s a life that is a novel, it’s a movie, it’s a miniseries, it’s a saga. It’s the life of an extraordinary person who, I think, had as much to do with changing women’s basketball as anyone who’s ever played the game.”

The 42-year-old won her sixth Olympic gold medal at the Paris Games and finishes her WNBA career with 10,646 points, nearly 3,000 more than second-place Tina Charles.

“I thank Diana for everything that she has brought to the WNBA — her passion, her charisma and, most of all, her relentless dedication to the game,” WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in a statement. "She leaves a lasting legacy and the future of the WNBA is in a great position because of her impact, that will be felt for generations to come.”

In addition to her three WNBA championships with the Mercury, Taurasi won six Euroleague championships while playing year-round most of her career. She was the 2009 WNBA MVP and is one of four players to earn WNBA Finals MVP honors more than once (2009, 2014).

“Diana is the greatest to have ever played the game. I’ve been a fan of her my entire life, she is the ultimate leader and teammate,” Mercury owner Mat Ishbia said in a statement. “She’s had an incredible impact on our franchise, our community and the game of basketball. Her name is synonymous with the Phoenix Mercury and she will forever be part of our family.”

Taurasi made the all-WNBA first team 10 times and was on the first or second team a record 14 times. She's also an 11-time WNBA All-Star, four-time USA Basketball female athlete of the year and was the 2004 WNBA rookie of the year.

“In my opinion, what the greats have in common is, they transcend the sport and become synonymous with the sport," Auriemma said. “For as long as people talk about college basketball, WNBA basketball, Olympic basketball, Diana is the greatest winner in the history of basketball, period. I’ve had the pleasure of being around her for a lot of those moments, and she’s the greatest teammate I’ve ever coached.”

The Glendale, California, native holds numerous WNBA records, including playoff scoring, field goals, 3-pointers and 30-point games. She also holds 16 Mercury records.

Now that she's retired, Taurasi will be able to spend more time with her wife, Penny Taylor — a former Mercury teammate — and their two children.

 </figure>PHOENIX (AP) — Diana Taurasi is retiring after 20 seasons, ending one of the greatest careers in women's basketball history.The WNBA's career scoring leader and a three-time league champion, Taurasi announced her retirement on Tuesday in an interview with Time magazine. The Phoenix Mercury — the only WNBA team she played for — also confirmed her decision.“Mentally and physically, I’m just full,” Taurasi told Time. “That’s probably the best way I can describe it. I’m full and I’m happy.”With her taut hair bun and supreme confidence, Taurasi inspired a generation of players while racking up records and championships.Taurasi led UConn to three straight national titles from 2001-04 and kept on winning after the Mercury selected her with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2004 WNBA draft.“It’s hard to put into words, it really is, what this means. When someone’s defined the game, when someone’s had such an impact on so many people and so many places. You can’t define it with a quote,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. “It’s a life that is a novel, it’s a movie, it’s a miniseries, it’s a saga. It’s the life of an extraordinary person who, I think, had as much to do with changing women’s basketball as anyone who’s ever played the game.”The 42-year-old won her sixth Olympic gold medal at the Paris Games and finishes her WNBA career with 10,646 points, nearly 3,000 more than second-place Tina Charles.“I thank Diana for everything that she has brought to the WNBA — her passion, her charisma and, most of all, her relentless dedication to the game,” WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in a statement. Her name is synonymous with the Phoenix Mercury and she will forever be part of our family.”Taurasi made the all-WNBA first team 10 times and was on the first or second team a record 14 times. She's also an 11-time WNBA All-Star, four-time USA Basketball female athlete of the year and was the 2004 WNBA rookie of the year.“In my opinion, what the greats have in common is, they transcend the sport and become synonymous with the sport," Auriemma said. “For as long as people talk about college basketball, WNBA basketball, Olympic basketball, Diana is the greatest winner in the history of basketball, period. INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Travis Kelce “was fired up” to keep playing after the season ended and the Kansas City Chiefs are expecting the star tight end to return for another year.

“How we left it at the end of the season is that he was fired up," general manager Brett Veach said Tuesday at the NFL scouting combine. “He has one more year under contract. Still think he has that fire and desire to play, and as far as I’m concerned, there is no deadline. I think we left it as he’d be back and we’re excited to get him back and get him going.”

The 35-year-old Kelce has been mulling whether to retire or make another run. The four-time All-Pro professed his love for football several times leading up to the Super Bowl. He has laid the groundwork for a career in TV and has a popular podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce. His relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift has made him a mega-celebrity.

Kelce said on his podcast he would “take some time” to figure out if he would retire or return for another season.

Coach Andy Reid told Kelce to take time away to decide on his future.

“That’s up to Travis,” Reid said. “At this point, get out of town and relax. That’s my motto for these guys. They played a lot of games for a consistent amount of seasons here. So you get to the end and you’ve exhausted yourself mentally and physically. ... step back and take care of that, then we’ll talk.”

Kelce's contract includes an $11.5 million roster bonus due March 15. Veach said the team is moving forward with its offseason plans “as if he’s here."
