The Cougars, who are receiving votes in the latest Division I poll, improve to 12-0 in conference play and 18-6 overall while Fort Hays Tech slides to 0-11 in league and 0-18 on the season.

Barton concludes its three-date homestand at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in welcoming 15th ranked Butler Community College to kick-off two key conference title race twinbills, the next coming on Wednesday at Hutchinson Community College who is also receiving votes in the national poll.

Amongst many records set on the afternoon, the Cougars' output in each contest both exceeded the previous 25 most runs scored in last year's victory against Garden City.

SHANGHAI (AP) — Ex-Formula 1 team owner and media personality Eddie Jordan has died. He was 76. He ran his own Jordan team in the 1990s and 2000s in F1. He became a popular pundit on TV after selling the team in 2005. Jordan had been undergoing treatment for what he had called “quite aggressive” cancer of the bladder and prostate which spread to his spine and pelvis. Jordan gave seven-time champion Michael Schumacher his first race in F1 in 1991. Three members of the Barton Community College men's basketball team were named to the All-KJCCC/Region 6 post-season award list.

Posting 16 double-doubles, fourteen came against conference opponents earning three conference player of the week honors. Moss added the NJCAA's week nine national player of the week honor from a monster 40-point, 20-rebound effort against Independence followed by a 17-point outing helping Barton to a double digit victory over then-12th ranked Coffeyville.

The 6'6" sophomore from Freeport, Bahamas, led Barton's scoring in fourteen of the thirty-three games and 22 games in rebounds.

KEANDRE KINDELL – 1st TeamArguably one of the, if not the, hardest guards to contain in the conference, Kindell put up an 11th best 16.5 points on the board while leading the league with 5.1 assist per game and 88.9% free throw shooting while defensively finishing second with 2.2 steals.

Earning a pair of conference players of the week awards, the first came in week 11 posting back-to-back career high performances exceeding his 26-point outing leading a road upset at then No. 23 Hutchinson to three days later posting a 31-point performance on 67% shooting versus Garden City.

Five weeks later the 6'0" guard out of Cincinnati, Ohio, grabbed his second weekly honor averaging 22 points on 55.6% shooting with 6.5 assist and 2.0 steals.

Trio of Barton men's 🏀 players named to All-KJCCC award list

The duo helped Barton to its 8th straight advancement to the quarterfinal round of the post-season before having the season close at 16-16 overall falling to eventual Region 6 champion and 7th ranked Dodge City.

VIVIAN ONUGHA – 1st TeamOnugha was a constant focus from the opposition, drawing double and often three opponents surrounding her to still lead the league with 17.0 rebounds while third in scoring at 17.6 points per game.

Posting 26 double-double efforts in the season's 32 games, Onugha averaged 17.4 points per outing on 53.5% shooting and 16.1 rebounds, 9.9 on the offensive glass, while also leading the team with 2.0 steals.

A second team selection last year, the Lagos, Nigeria, native closed out her stellar Barton career on game highs 22 points, 7 rebounds, and career high 5 steals, rewriting the program record book in eight different categories while having countless other top ten all-time best performances.

Most notably, a record 26 rebounds in a single game led to finishing as the top rebounder in program history ranking first in: career rebounds (828), career rebound average (12.9), single season rebounds (514), single season rebound average (16.1), season offensive rebounds (197), season offensive rebound average (6.1), and single season defensive rebound average (9.9) while finishing ten behind with a season second most 318 defensive rebounds.

The drawn attention also sent Onugha to the free throw line, shooting a single game 20 attempts tying for the program most, second in season attempts (208), and finished 5th all-time in being to the charity stripe for 325 attempts.

Earning three KJCCC player of the week honors, Onugha also earned the NJCAA's week eight national player of the week following her record setting 26 rebound game performance in averaging 18 points and 24.5 rebounds helping Barton to a pair of victories.

ALAINA ECK – Honorable MentionEck's development from a Kansas Class 1A school to a collegiate athlete drew the attention of league coaches in receiving honorable mention honors.

The freshman from Little River began her collegiate career memorable outing against the then-nation's 8th ranked team Odessa with an 18-point performance on 3-of-4 three-point shooting, while grabbing 5 rebounds, with a team high 3 assists and 3 steals.

Averaging a team third most 9.5 points on the season, Eck put up just shy of 9 points per conference outing including a career high 23 points at Independence with another 21-point production against Cowley.

Nebraska high jumper Tyus Wilson was selected as the Big Ten Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year on Wednesday by the conference head coaches.

The senior from Sterling, Kan., was this year’s high jump national champion, the first Husker men’s indoor national champion since 2009, as he cleared an indoor PR and the third-highest mark in school history, 2.28m (7-5 ¾). Wilson is a four-time USTFCCCA First Team All-American, three-time Big Ten Champion and now a two-time conference field athlete of the year.&nbsp;

This marks the fourth year in a row a Husker has won the Big Ten Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year honor, with Till Steinforth and Jonah Wilson earning this award the past two seasons.&nbsp;

She says “the U.S. president issued a decision related to transgender policies in America. I am not transgender. This does not concern me, and it does not intimidate me.” Khelif says she is aiming for a “second gold medal, of course,” at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.

That development comes after a page honoring a Black Medal of Honor winner was momentarily taken down amid the department’s campaign to strip out content singling out the contributions by women and minority groups, which the Trump administration considers “DEI.” According to Internet Archive, the page on Robinson previously included biographical information about his Army service during World War II. COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina coach Dawn Staley has built a powerhouse, not unlike what Connecticut and Tennessee accomplished in previous decades. She has no shortage of talent. The Gamecocks will try to win back-to-back national championships with the help of their reserves. South Carolina’s bench is the best in women’s college basketball, and it’s not even close. The Gamecocks average 41.5 points per game from their reserves. That's nearly 10 points more than the next closest Division I team.

TOKYO (AP) — Sota Fujimori is the luckiest 10-year-old in Japan. Sitting in right-center field on Wednesday night at the Tokyo Dome, he watched Shohei Ohtani’s home run in the fifth inning fall off the hands of another fan nearby — and back onto the field. Timely hitting provided Neosho County's 7-5 victory in the opener snapping the Cougars' 10-game win streak followed by game two's back-and-forth battle decided by freshman&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="http://www.bartonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/alvord_karter_0j92">Karter Alvord</a>'s eighth inning walk-off single for an 8-7 victory salving Barton's split.

The Cougars, who now are receiving votes in the latest Division I poll, end the day at 16-6 while Neosho County moves to 11-9 overall.

Barton resumes its three-date homestand and returns to conference play on Thursday hosting Fort Hays Tech Northwest, a contest moved back a day escaping Wednesday's forecasted bad weather. The homestand will then wrap up Saturday in welcoming 15th ranked Butler Community College in a key conference title race twinbill. FIFA on Monday released its annual report on the women’s game, highlighting the inequities across the sport. Soccer’s world governing body expanded the fourth edition's scope from 34 leagues to 86 leagues and some 669 teams, providing a more accurate picture of the state of the game.

A pair of walk-off victories gave the home fans at Lawson-Biggs Field plenty to cheer about on Saturday afternoon as the Barton Community College baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep over No. 20 Hutchinson Community College, winning the opener in run-rule fashion 20-10 in five-innings before completing it in comeback style by a final tally of 9-8.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="http://www.bartonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/alvord_hunter_t2fs">Hunter Alvord</a>&nbsp;extended his consecutive-game hitting streak to then seven straight games with a walk-off double in the opening five-inning run rule victory before&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="http://www.bartonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/connors_john_py2o">John Connors</a>&nbsp;sent a Cougar mob around home plate in the nightcap distributing a two-run home run to right center for his second of the game to walk it off.

Winning the final three games after dropping the opener, the Cougars improve to 7-1 in league play and 12-4 overall while the Blue Dragons drop their first conference series loss sliding to 4-4 in Jayhawk West play and 17-7 overall.

Barton will head back out on the road Monday for a non-conference doubleheader at Southeast Community College. First pitch of the twinbill is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field in Norfolk, Nebraska. The Cougars will return to conference play Thursday hosting Cloud County Community College in the opening two games of a four-game set with the T-Birds.
