Lukosius finished with 13 points. Perry hit a straight-away 3 late in the shot clock that made it 72-71 with 1:16 left — Kansas State’s first lead since 8-5. Neither team scored again until Lukosius came around a screen, caught a pass from Jizzle James at hit the winner. Perry lost the ball out of bounds under the basket with 2.7 seconds to go. Perry hit six 3s and led the Wildcats with 26 points, including 17 in the second half.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Tre King had 16 points and No. 8 Iowa State had a late 11-0 run to beat UCF 60-52 on Saturday for its third straight victory and seventh in eight games. Milan Momcilovic and Curtis Jones each added 11 points for Iowa State (23-6, 12-4 Big 12). Momcilovic hit a basket with 2:20 left to give the Cyclones a three-point lead. Jaylin Sellers led UCF (15-13, 6-10) with 13 points. Shemarri Allen had 11. After UCF rallied to take a one-point lead, the Cyclones held the Knights scoreless for nearly the final five minutes. UCF broke the drought with 16 seconds left at the foul line. The Knights did not make a field goal in the final 5:08.

PROVO, Utah (AP) — Fousseyni Traore scored 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting, Trevin Knell added 20 points, including four 3-pointers, and BYU erased a 17-point halftime deficit as the Cougars beat TCU 87-75. Dallin Hall scored 12 points, Richie Saunders 11 and Spencer Johnson 10 for BYU. Saunders hit a jumper and followed 15 seconds later with a 3-pointer that gave the Cougars the lead for good at 65-62 with 7:32 left amid a 12-0 spurt capped about a minute later when Traore made a layup. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Joe Toussaint scored 21 points, Chance McMillian added 19 and Texas Tech beat West Virginia 81-70. It was tied 63-all with 7:46 remaining. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Freshman S’Mya Nichols had a career-high 29 points, senior Holly Kersgieter had a season-high 26 and Kansas ended the regular season with an 83-74 win over 20th-ranked and Big 12 Conference champion Oklahoma. Taiyanna Jackson had her 40th career double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds as the Jayhawks enhanced their NCAA resume with a third Top 25 win and their eighth win in the last nine games. Payton Verhulst had 22 points for Oklahoma. The Big 12 tournament starts on Thursday but Oklahoma doesn’t play until Saturday. Kansas plays on Friday.

Lukosius finished with 13 points. Day Day Thomas added 14 points, five assists and four steals and Jizzle James scored 10 for Cincinnati (17-12, 6-10 Big 12).

Jamille Reynolds converted a three-point play to give Cincinnati a 67-54 lead — matching the largest of the game — with 6:51 remaining. Tylor Perry answered with a 3-pointer 11 seconds later and added two free throws before he hit another 3 to cap a 10-0 run a little more than 2 minutes later. Carter was fouled on a 3-point shot and hit all three free throws to pull the Wildcats within two with 3:03 remaining and neither team scored again until Perry hit a straight-away 3 late in the shot clock that made it 72-71 with 1:16 left — Kansas State’s first lead since 8-5.

Neither team scored again until Lukosius came around a screen, caught a pass from James at hit the winner. Perry lost the ball out of bounds under the basket with 2.7 seconds to go and Newman was fouled with 1.7 left but missed the front end of a 1-and-1. Will McNair Jr. grabbed the rebound and called a timeout with 1.5 to go but the inbounds pass was deflected and rolled out of bounds as time expired.

Perry led the Wildcats with 26 points, including 17 in the second half. He made 7 of 10 from the field, 6 of 8 from 3-point range and 6 of 6 from the free-throw line. Jerrell Colbert added 15 points and Cam Carter scored 13.

Kansas State (17-12, 7-9) has lost eight of its last 11 games.

Colbert scored seven consecutive points for Kansas State capped by a dunk that made it 21-19 but the Bearcats scored 11 of the next 13. The Wildcats scored the final four points of the first half and the first four of the second to trim its deficit to 34-31 with 19 minutes to play but Newman scored nine points in a 13-4 run over the next 3 minutes.

The Bearcats are 8-1 all-time against Kansas State. The programs met seven times from 1958-68 and have played just twice since, the most recent coming when Cincinnati beat the Wildcats 75-61 in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

Cincinnati beats Kansas State 74-72

WACO, Texas (AP) — RayJ Dennis had 19 points and 10 assists, Jayden Nunn scored 18 points with consecutive fastbreak layups in a key run for No. 15 Baylor and the Bears beat seventh-ranked Kansas 82-74 on Saturday, handing the Jayhawks consecutive losses for the first time this season.

Yves Missi added 17 points and fellow freshman Ja'Kobe Walter had 11 for the Bears (21-8, 10-6 Big 12).

Nunn first drove the length of the court with 13:49 left after grabbing a defensive rebound. Then after 7-foot freshman Missi blocked a Kansas shot, Dennis passed ahead to a breaking Nunn for another layup. Those baskets 25 seconds apart ignited a 13-2 run that pushed Baylor's lead from one to 12 with 10 minutes left.

Big 12 scoring leader Kevin McCullar Jr., in his return to the lineup after missing four of the previous five games with a bone bruise in his knee, and Hunter Dickinson had 20 points each for Kansas (21-8, 9-7), which was coming off a 76-68 loss at home to Big 12 newcomer BYU. Dajuan Harris had 12 points and nine assists.

The Bears had their largest lead before halftime at 31-24 after Dennis made a 3-pointer with 3 1/2 minutes left, but they needed his jumper with 28 seconds left to lead 35-34 at the break.

Kansas went on a 10-2 spurt in between those baskets by Dennis. The Jayhawks' streak started with two nifty assists by Harris, including a give-and-go break with McCullar, who had a steal. Harris' floater put the Jayhawks up 34-33.

Kansas: This is the first time the Jayhawks have had seven conference losses during coach Bill Self's 21 seasons. They have to win one of their next two games (vs. Kansas State and at No. 1 Houston) to extend their record streak of winning conference records to 35 seasons in a row.

Baylor: The Bears are a national-best 32-15 against AP Top 25 opponents the past five seasons, and have won 13 of their last 18 against top 10 teams.

The Jayhawks scored 46 points in the paint, with 22 of those before halftime. The opening stretch included an emphatic two-handed dunk by Dickinson with just under six minutes left that gave him the last of his 10 points before the break. He scored Kansas’ first six points, including consecutive passes from Adams for a dunk and a layup.

Missi opened the scoring with a powerful dunk even with Adams’ hands in his face, and then did a spin move around Dickinson for a layup for their second basket.

Kansas' streak of 55 consecutive AP poll appearances in the top 10 will come to an end Monday, though the Jayhawks still will be ranked. That will leave top-ranked Houston with the longest active streak of top-10 appearances at 36 in a row.

Kansas is back home at Allen Fieldhouse to play Sunflower State rival Kansas State on Tuesday night. That comes after a week after the Jayhawks’ only home loss, to BYU.

Baylor has two games in a three-day stretch, in its home finale Monday night against Texas.

The Barton Community College baseball team got 13-shutout innings from their two starting pitchers and pounded out 23 hits to defeat North Iowa Area Community College in the first two games of a three game weekend series Friday afternoon at Lawson-Biggs Field.

Making just his second start of the season, Reece Hemmerling pitched the Cougars to an opening game 6-0 victory, as the sophomore earned his first collegiate complete game shutout. Going for the doubleheader sweep in the nightcap, Aidan Sowers followed up Hemmerling's performance in game two tossing six-plus innings while the Cougar bats delivered the ultimate blow with a 13-run sixth inning, for a 15-5 run-rule victory over the Trojans.

Winners of now four straight, Barton improves to 10-4 overall while NIACC suffers their sixth straight loss in dropping to 5-8 overall. The series concludes Saturday at 12:00 p.m. from Lawson-Biggs Field.

Cougar starter Hemmerling set the tone early needing just six pitches to get through the first inning sending the Trojans down in order for the first of three times in the game.

Taking advantage of a Robby Bolin drawn hit-by-pitch and Owen Clyne walk with one-out, Ayden Hadley's bloop RBI double was the lone Barton run needed.

Cole Schieffer's opposite field poke single to right increased the lead to 4-0, scoring Clyne's leadoff walk in the fifth with the final runs furnished on Clyne's two-out, two-RBI single plating Gomez second single and Bolin walk.

Helping preserve Hemmerling's shutout bid was Bolin's over the fence robbing catch in left center that brought back a potential game tying three-run home run in the top of the fifth. Now (2-0) on the season, Hemmerling concluded his seven-inning line, scattering a trio of hits, two walks and striking out seven Trojan batters in securing the complete game shutout.

One of three Trojan errors in the nightcap prolonged the bottom of the first with Schieffer's sacrifice fly driving in the first of his two runs produced handing Barton a 1-0 lead.

The last time the Great Bend High School boys' basketball team appeared at the state tournament in 2010, the Class 5A field included future Kansas City Chief Blake Bell and future Kansas City Royal Bubba Starling. The future, then, is wide open for the next group of players. With a 69-54 win against Hutchinson Friday night at GBHS, the Panthers are headed back to state for the first time in 14 years.

Since a loss to Hays on Jan. 26, the Panthers have rattled off eight straight wins, avenging losses to Garden City, the Indians, and Hutchinson. Great Bend takes a 17-5 record to Emporia next week.

"I just feel like we've came more prepared and we've been more locked in since the first time we played them," said Panther senior Maddox Spray.

The Salthawks rarely threatened in Friday's rematch. Great Bend led 12-7 after one quarter and 23-17 at the break. Spray and sophomore Ian Premer took over in the third quarter, combining for all 22 Great Bend points as the Panther lead grew to 45-31 with a quarter to play. After a scoreless first half, Spray scored all 21 of his points in the final two quarters.

"I was able to get to the rim and just do what I do best, which is finish and get to the free throw line," he said.

Hutchinson did make a run late. Senior Jax Heneha went scoreless in the first half but hit a pair of threes and scored 10 of his 16 points in the final quarter. Junior guard Terrell King did most of the scoring for the Salthawks early on. He added five points in the fourth to finish with 21 points before fouling out.

The Salthawks were able to cut a 19-point deficit to 11 points midway through the fourth on a Heneha three, but Panther senior Carter Coombs answered with a trey of his own for a 55-41 score with 3:46 remaining. Spray put in three baskets and went 6-of-7 from the line in the final quarter for 12 of his 21 points.

Premer went scoreless in the fourth quarter but still finished with a game-high 21 points to go with eight rebounds. Another highlight was a breakaway from Daxton Minton that led to a jam from Premer late in the third quarter to boost the Panther lead to 44-25. Sophomore Jacob Hall turned in another big performance with 13 points and six rebounds.

Great Bend High School bowling coach David Feldbauer said Friday's Class 5A state championships at Northrock Lanes in Wichita would be a completely different outcome than last week's third-place regional finish in Hutchinson. He hit the nail on the hand. The Lady Panthers finished with 2,996 total pins to beat Goddard-Eisenhower by 115 pins for a second straight Class 5A state championship.

Eisenhower's Olyvia Choura won the individual title with a 674 series, including a 278 to open the tournament. St. James' Taylor Brim followed with games of 235 and 246 to finish second with a 642. Lady Panther senior Kaylin Wahlmeier placed fourth with a 613, missing third by just six pins. Wahlmeier topped out at 231 pins and also rolled games of 199 and 183.

Senior Emilee Nelson bowled games of 200 and 197, rounding out the top 10 with a 578. She tied the ninth-place bowler and missed fifth place by just 10 pins. Zoey Mayberry rolled games of 204 and 189 to place 13th with a 565 series. Paige Heine added 63 pins to her previous high on the day, finishing with a 218 to move to 26th with a 518. Brooklynn Mayberry opened with a 169 and went on to place 51st with a 448. Rionna Rodriguez had a 171 middle game and finished 58th with a 426. 

Great Bend finished with 682 pins in the four Baker games to beat Goddard-Eisenhower by 81 pins. Consistent across the board, the girls rolled games of 170, 164, 172, and 176.

The Barton Community College softball team picked up a big road win in the opener of Thursday's doubleheader at 14th ranked Butler Community College but fell short of the sweep on a cold and windy day in El Dorado.

Winning the first game 10-4 powered by a 6-run fifth frame, the Cougars earned their first victory in El Dorado since 2019 in snapping a 7-game streak. Barton's bid to sweep fell short as a deciding 5-run first frame of the nightcap built Barton a hole that Butler filled in completely with a 3-run fifth to end it on a 10-2 score.

The KJCCC result leaves both teams at 3-1 in league, Barton moving to 5-7 on the season while Butler moves to 11-3 overall.

UNDATED (AP) — A
new set of rules for the block/charge call in college basketball has
helped open up the game. Defenders can no longer slide in front of a
driving player and expect to get a call. A charge now is only called
if the defender is in position before the driving player has planted
a foot to go airborne. After a bit of an early-season learning curve,
players have gotten the hang of the new rule. Scoring so far is up
more than two points per game across the sport and two teams are
averaging more than 90. Officials also have remained relatively
consistent with the calls, even into conference season.

UNDATED (AP) — The
NCAA claimed that if a court barred it from enforcing rules against
name, image and likeness compensation being offered to recruits it
would make an unmanageable situation even worse. Those who work with
the booster-funded organizations called collectives say lifting those
rules will bring much-needed clarity. Last week, a Tennessee judge
granted a preliminary injunction in a lawsuit against the NCAA. The
association is still trying to sort out what exactly it means, but
most who work on NIL deals for college athletes believes they will be
able to operate more freely.

Iowa star Caitlin Clark says she will leave the Hawkeyes after this
season and enter the WNBA draft. Clark made the announcement Thursday
on social media. She is 18 points away from passing LSU’s Pete
Maravich for the all-time NCAA Division I record for men or women
with 3,650 career points. She broke Lynette Woodard’s major college
scoring record on Wednesday. Clark is expected to be the top pick in
the draft on April 15. The Indiana Fever, who have the first pick,
indicated on social media shortly after Clark's announcement that
they intend to select her.

BATON ROUGE, La.
(AP) — Iowa star Caitlin Clark is close to passing the late Pete
Maravich as the all-time scorer in NCAA basketball history.
Maravich's son Jaeson calls Clark a fantastic player who's been great
for basketball. He says he will always consider her scoring mark
separate” from his father's. Clark needs 18 points to eclipse
Maravich's mark of 3,667 in what would he her 130th game over four
seasons. Freshman couldn't play varsity basketball when Maravich
arrived at LSU in 1966. He averaged 44.2 points over 83 games during
three seasons in an era when there was no 3-point line or shot clock.

MADRID (AP) —
Spain’s women’s soccer team is finally getting attention for its
play on the field, rather than the behavior of its officials. Spain
followed up its Women’s World Cup win in August with victory in the
inaugural Women’s Nations League on Wednesday and this time the
talk in Spain was about the great performances of the team and not
about an unwanted kiss that ruined the team’s World Cup title
celebrations. The kiss by former soccer federation president Luis
Rubiales on the lips of player Jenni Hermoso during the World Cup
awards ceremony sparked widespread outrage in Spain.

PALM BEACH GARDENS,
Fla. (AP) — Chad Ramey’s first two trips to PGA National as a
professional were largely forgettable. He might have a chance to
change that this week. Ramey shot a bogey-free round of 7-under 64 on
Thursday in the opening round of the Cognizant Classic in the Palm
Beaches. He was tied with S.H. Kim for the 18-hole lead. Kim had an
eagle and five birdies. They were both one stroke up on Cameron
Young, Ryan Moore, Chesson Hadley, Austin Eckroat, David Skinns and
Andrew Novak. No. 2-ranked Rory McIlroy opened with a 67.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) —
The Philadelphia Phillies have scrapped their popular $1 hot dog
nights for the 2024 season. The Phillies replaced dollar dogs on
select dates with a two-for-one deal at two April games at Citizens
Bank Park. The Phillies BOGO nights this season are April 2 and April
16. The Phillies said the change was made based on the organization’s
ongoing commitment to provide a positive experience for all fans in
attendance. Some Phillies fans last season threw hot dogs throughout
the ballpark.

Chiefs owner Clark Hunt admitted Wednesday the Super Bowl champions are overdue for renovations to their practice facilities after the NFL Players Association's annual report card graded Kansas City the second-worst team in the league overall.

Hunt had just unveiled plans for an $800 million renovation to Arrowhead Stadium that would include plenty of amenities for fans — but little for players — when he was asked about the report card. The NFLPA has produced it the past two years based on surveys of players in an attempt to improve overall working conditions around the league.

The report card gave the Chiefs, who will go for a third straight Super Bowl title and fourth in six years next season, failing grades for their nutritionist/dietician, locker room and training staff. Hunt was given an F-minus as the owner of the franchise, and “a rating of 4.9/10 from Chiefs players when considering his willingness to invest in the facilities.”

“I have not had a chance to see the report,” Hunt told a small group of reporters after the stadium presentation in Kansas City. “I mentioned the practice facility is something we're going to continue to think about. It's coming up on 20 years. We've certainly in a lot of ways outgrown it and we recognize we need to expand it and modernize it.”

Hunt pointed out that the Chiefs recently renovated the locker rooms at Arrowhead Stadium, but those in the nearby training complex remain untouched. Most of the rest of the facility likewise has gone unchanged over the years.

Kansas City also received a D for its training room and team travel, a D-plus for treatment of families and C-minus for food and cafeteria. Its weighted score put it 31st ahead of only the Commanders, who received failing grades for team travel and training staff and an F-minus grade for its locker room and training room..

“The one bright spot for the team is head coach Andy Reid, who was the highest-rated head coach in the NFL,” the survey said of the Chiefs. “Other than that, the players are frustrated by their workplace offerings, especially after the team’s sustained success in recent years. The responses identify major issues in two areas: quality of care and out-of-date facilities."

NFLPA president JC Tretter said more than 77% of active players responded to the survey.

At the top of the rankings were the Miami Dolphins, who had no grade lower than an A-minus in any category and received the highest weighted score of any team. The Minnesota Vikings had no grade lower than a B and had the second-best score.

“The (Dolphins’) state-of-the-art facilities continue to impress," the report said, “but more importantly, are complemented by the number of quality trainers, strength coaches and other support staff who help make the workplace experience one of the best across the league.”

Rounding out the top five in weighted score were the Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars.

At the bottom of the ranking were the Washington Commanders. When their players were asked what issues were most important to fix, the report said, “most players couldn’t come up with just one.”

“Instead, the common answer was the entire facility," the report said. "The players understand that the new club ownership didn’t create these current problems, and they are hopeful that the new team ownership is willing to do what it takes to fix them.”

This was the first year that the survey included grades for head coaches, owners and dietician/nutritionist.

More than half of head coaches received an A-minus or better, including A-plus grades for Reid, the Lions' Matt Campbell and the Vikings' Kevin O’Connell. The lowest grade was a D for the Raiders' Josh McDaniels, who has&nbsp;since been fired.

Owners who received A-plus grades were the Dolphins' Stephen Ross and the Vikings' Zygi Wilf. Along with Hunt, the Steelers' Art Rooney II and the Cardinals' Michael Bidwill also received F-minus grades.

The NFLPA worked with Statler Nagle and Artemis Strategy Group on the survey. Players were surveyed between Aug. 26 and Nov. 16 of last year. Answers were collected anonymously.

“Progress rarely comes as fast as you would like,” Tretter said, “but we are encouraged by how many teams made substantial improvements in the wake of last year’s results. Overall, players responded to those changes positively, which is reflected in many of the grades for those clubs.”

Chiefs owner gets 'F-minus' grade from NFLPA, says team needs to improve facilities

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Jets general manager Joe Douglas says the team took notice of Super Bowl star Mecole Hardman saying on a podcast he told the Kansas City Chiefs to “come get me” while he was disgruntled in New York earlier this season.

“I’ll just say those comments definitely resonated with us,” Douglas told reporters Wednesday at the NFL combine.

The wide receiver, who spent his first four NFL seasons with the Chiefs, signed with the Jets last March as a free agent. He struggled to find a role in New York's offense after quarterback Aaron Rodgers was lost for the season with a torn left Achilles tendon. Hardman also was beat out for the primary punt return role by undrafted rookie Xavier Gipson.

Hardman had just one catch for 6 yards in five games with the Jets. He was critical of the team during an interview on “The Pivot” podcast hosted by former NFL star safety and current ESPN analyst Ryan Clark.

Leading into New York's game against Kansas City in Week 4, Hardman says he was “so checked out, like, it was over with.” He added he had already spoken to both Chiefs GM Brett Veach and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

"Like, 'come get me,’” Hardman said he told them.

It was not immediately certain if the Jets would pursue possible tampering charges with the NFL against the Chiefs.

The Jets traded Hardman and a seventh-round pick in the 2025 draft to the Chiefs three weeks later for a 2025 sixth-rounder.

On Tuesday night, Hardman tried to clarify his comments on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Never had talks with KC before the trade, so we can CLEAR THAT UP!” Hardman wrote. “The Jets handled my trade on their own and did the right thing by sending me back to KC!”

Hardman caught the winning touchdown pass from Mahomes in overtime, helping Kansas City beat San Francisco 25-22 in the Super Bowl this month.

Kansas- The Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association (KWCA) has announced
the high school senior wrestlers who have accepted their invitation

All Shrine Bowl of Kansas, Inc. events are produced and presented to
benefit Shriners Children’s. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity
that produces annual events and related activities, with net proceeds
benefiting Shriners Children’s. Shriners Children’s is a health
care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of
children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research,
and outstanding teaching programs for medical professionals. Children
up to the age of 18 are eligible for care and receive all services in
a family-centered environment, regardless of the patients' ability to
pay.
