CORTINA D'AMPEZZO, Italy (AP) — The temporary Olympic Village in Cortina d'Ampezzo that will house up to 1,400 athletes and other team members during the Milan Cortina Games consists of nearly 400 rented mobile homes arranged in close proximity to one another on a humid valley floor. The Village is a 10-minute drive or a 1-hour walk north of downtown Cortina in an unpopulated area. In other words it’s in the middle of nature. Government commissioner Fabio Saldini says “You have the opportunity to hear the sound of the mountains" and “isolate yourself if you wish” or “go out for a pleasant workout.”

MILAN (AP) — There is no backup plan if the main ice hockey arena for the Milan Cortina Winter Games is not ready on time. Construction is behind schedule and going right down to the wire. A test event at the Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena had to be moved, and new ones won’t be until January 9-11. Andrea Francisi the Chief Games Operations Officer for Milan Cortina told The Associated Press on Saturday there is no plan B. However, he is confident “for the moment” the venue will be ready in time. The first Olympics game at the main hockey arena is the women’s preliminary round competition on February 5, one day before the opening ceremony.

“Joe Jackson is becoming one of the best running backs in the conference, which is fun to watch,” K-State head coach Chris Klieman said after the game. “Last week (when Jackson set a K-State record with 293 rushing yards against Utah), Joe ran through wide-open holes, made a couple of guys miss and had huge gains. This week, those holes were really small.

"Joe was a football player this week. (He) ran through contact and delivered punishing blows.”

Quarterback Avery Johnson was 10-of-17 for 115 yards in difficult conditions for Kansas State (6-6, 5-4 Big 12). Johnson was not concerned with his pedestrian stats, because he'll get to play another game with this group of seniors.

“It means everything,” he said. “We can get extra practices in from now into the bowl game, and young guys get to develop. There’s so much development that they can get in these extra practice periods. So we don’t take any of those extra practices for granted, and we don’t take another opportunity to go play the game we love for granted.”

Kaidon Salter was 14-of-25 for 172 yards for Colorado (3-9, 1-8), who got two rushing touchdowns from Micah Welch.

“It’s not a consolation prize,” Colorado coach Deion Sanders said of staying in the game until late. “They're supposed to fight. First of all, let’s acknowledge the opposing team. They played a heck of a game. The quarterback didn’t make many mistakes. The running back ran hard, and when they need to make the plays defensively, they made plays.”

Klieman was not happy with his team's effort in the first half. He made that clear at halftime.

“I challenged them pretty good at halftime,” he said. “I said, ‘We got 30 minutes for this story to be written. And I know you seniors want to play another football game. We’ve got to go out and establish ourselves in the second half, and we’ve got to win the line of scrimmage.’”

Jackson scored his second touchdown of the day from 1-yard out with 4:32 left in the third quarter. The score capped a 56-yard drive.

The Wildcats then made it a two-score game with a 35-yard field goal by Luis Rodriguez. The Wildcats stalled at the Colorado 19-yard line, but they burned 6:43 off the clock.

Welch's second rushing touchdown of the game capped a nine-play, 75-yard drive and brought the Buffaloes to within 17-14.

But Jackson's third touchdown, a 17-yard scamper with 2:34 left, extended the lead to 10 points.

“They were trying to stop the run game the best they could,” Jackson said. “But if things weren’t going right, like they did last week, I've got to keep trusting my guys up front, keep believing they were going to make things work.”

K-State used nearly half the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead on a 4-yard touchdown run by Jackson. The Wildcats used 7:13 for a 13-play drive.

Neither team did much offensively for most of the rest of the half until Colorado marched 84 yards in 11 plays for the tying touchdown.

Welch hurdled over the line from the 1 for the score. Colorado finished the half with 162 yards of total offense. K-State finished with 114 yards, with 74 of those coming on its opening drive.

Colorado: The Buffaloes didn't look like a team with nothing to play for. They outgained the Wildcats 323-321.

Kansas State: The Wildcats struggled to find its rhythm on offense. A week after gaining 574 yards, they gained just 321.

Jackson's three rushing touchdowns leads K-State to bowl eligibility

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Thanksgiving weekend has been a whirlwind for Iowa's Aaron Graves, and the emotion caught up with him minutes after the Hawkeyes wrapped up a 40-16 win over Nebraska on Friday.

Graves' wife, Aubrey, gave birth to their first child at 3:07 p.m. Thursday and five hours later the defensive lineman was on a Hawkeye booster's private plane flying from Iowa City to Lincoln. He arrived at the team hotel about 12 hours before Iowa took the field at Memorial Stadium.

The 6-foot-5, 295-pound senior from Dayton, Iowa, choked up and needed a minute to compose himself when asked about his son, Grayson, who weighed in at 6 pounds, 5 ounces. Mom and baby are doing well, he said.

“The last 24 hours are probably the craziest of my life, for sure,” Graves said. “She went into labor Wednesday, gave birth yesterday and I was able to spend time with her. Boone shot 8 of 14 from the field, and went 5 for 6 from the line for the Hilltoppers (5-2). Teagan Moore and Grant Newell each scored 18 points. Moore was 6 of 11 from the field and 6 for 7 from the line with six rebounds. Moore shot 7 of 14 from the field, including 3 for 5 from 3-point range.

Saturday Sports Headlines and Scores presented by Barton Community College

The Kansas City Chiefs have run out of room for error.

If they’re going to extend the dynasty and reach the AFC championship game for a ninth straight season to have a shot at winning a fourth Super Bowl title with coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, they might need to win their last five games — and get help.

A&nbsp;31-28 loss at Dallas&nbsp;on Thursday dropped the Chiefs (6-6) to .500. They’ve already lost to the three 7-4 teams currently sitting in the AFC wild-card spots — Chargers, Jaguars, Bills — and they also trail the Texans (6-5) and Steelers (6-5).

Kansas City’s final five games are home vs. Houston and Los Angeles (the Chargers beat the Chiefs in Week 1 in Brazil), at Tennessee, home vs. Denver and at Las Vegas. The three toughest games are at Arrowhead Stadium, where the Chiefs are 5-1.

“You’ve just got to win every game now. I hope that’s enough,” Mahomes said. “We’re going to play a lot of good ballteams coming up. If we’re going to make the playoffs, we’re going to have to win ’em all. That’s got to be the mindset when we step into the building when we get back.”

It’s going to be a tough task for Mahomes and Co. An inconsistent offense showed encouraging signs, scoring four touchdowns against Dallas. But Steve Spagnoulo’s defense surrendered 457 yards and 31 points. They need to tighten up down the stretch.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys (6-5-1) have climbed back into the NFC playoff race with their third straight win. They defeated the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles and the runners-up in a five-day span.

Dak Prescott is thriving thanks to George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb, who overcame the drops against Philadelphia. The revamped defense got the best of a depleted offensive line and harassed Mahomes throughout the game.

Still, the Cowboys have a long way to go. They would have to win out and have the Eagles (8-3) lose three games to win the NFC East.

Dallas visits Detroit next week, hosts Minnesota and the Chargers and finishes with consecutive road games against Washington and the New York Giants.

The Cowboys would surpass the Lions (7-5) with a win next Thursday. They’ll need San Francisco (8-4) to lose two games if they win out to finish with an eight-game winning streak.

“We’re playing good football, we’re riding a three-game winning streak,” Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said. “We need to get to four. And again, I think if you look at things that way, and it makes the process easier, and if we keep winning football games, we’ll see what happens at the end.”

Detroit’s hopes of becoming a three-peat division champion took a serious hit with a&nbsp;31-24 loss&nbsp;to the Green Bay Packers.

Jordan Love was outstanding, tossing four TD passes. Micah Parsons was dominant, recording 2 1/2 sacks. The Packers (8-3-1) swept the Lions and would take over first place if Chicago (8-3) loses at Philadelphia (8-3) on Friday.

The Packers will face the Bears twice in the next three games sandwiched around a road game against the Broncos (9-2). The division battle will come down to those matchups.

“There are a lot of good football teams in our division,” Love said. “We’ve got to come out here and handle business every time we get those opps. Obviously, we know this three-game stretch we’ve had with the Vikings, now the Lions, and then go with the Bears next week. You’ve got to come in and win these games and try to control your own destiny by winning out.”

Detroit has lost three of four and four of six. The Lions would have to win out and get help to win another division title. They won’t have an easy road to a wild-card spot, either. After Dallas, the Lions visit the NFC-leading Rams, host the Steelers and finish with consecutive road games against the Vikings and Bears.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs are .500 through 12 games for the first time since the 2017 season.

They squeaked into the playoffs as a wild-card team that year.

They have a whole lot of work to do, and need a whole lot of help, if they want to pull off that feat again.

An inconsistent season by the reigning AFC champions seemed to be summed up by&nbsp;an inconsistent performance on Thursday&nbsp;in Dallas. The Chiefs' once-high flying offense was rolling when it wasn't committing penalties, while a defense that had been playing well was gashed by the Cowboys — when it, too, wasn't committing penalties.

The result was&nbsp;a demoralizing 31-28 defeat&nbsp;that further buried Kansas City in the playoff race.

“I mean, our ceiling is playing in the Super Bowl,” Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said afterward. “But at the end of the day, you've got to go out and do it on a week-in and week-out basis. We can beat anybody. But we've shown we can lose to anybody.”

The Chiefs (6-6) were coming off an uplifting win over the AFC South-leading Colts, and they beat the playoff-contending Lions earlier this season. But they have lost to the majority of teams angling for the postseason, including the AFC West-rival Chargers and Broncos, two teams that Kansas City gets to face again down the stretch.

There also are games against the Texans and Titans still to come.

Kansas City just might need to win 'em all.

“We’ve got to be more consistent,” Mahomes said. "It starts with me being consistent throughout the entire game, not in just the big moments. That’s something that we have to do throughout an entire game and week to week. It’s not just one time. We obviously see the last week, we have a big win and then come here and play another good football team and you don’t come to play.

"So, the ceiling can be what it is, but until you put it on the football field, you won’t be able to go out there and win football games.”

The biggest problem Thursday has been a big problem all season: penalties.

The Chiefs were flagged 10 times for 119 yards against the Cowboys. Many came at the most inopportune of times, such as the pair of pass interference calls when Kansas City was trying to get the ball back in the closing minutes of the game.

The Chiefs have been flagged 37 times for 335 yards in six wins. They've been penalized 52 times for 438 yards in six defeats.

“The guys understand we’ve got to clean up a few things,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "We’re going do better as coaches. We’ve got to do better as players. And so, you go back to the drawing board and you keep working, is what you do. We were close here. But we had too many opportunities that we gave away, and with two good teams playing each other, you can’t have those things.”

If the Chiefs were winning more games, Mahomes would be in the conversation for a third MVP. He threw for a season-best 352 yards last week against Indianapolis, and he was 23 of 34 for 261 yards with four TD passes and no interceptions in Dallas.

WR Rashee Rice's stock has been soaring. He had eight catches for 92 yards and two TDs against the Cowboys, and 16 for 233 yards over the past two weeks. The entire defensive backfield struggled against Dallas, giving up big catches, big yardage and, yes, big penalties.

LT Josh Simmons is out indefinitely after dislocating his left wrist, an injury made doubly concerning by the fact that RT Jawaan Taylor also hurt his triceps against Dallas. SS Bryan Cook missed most of the game after hurting his ankle.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Devon Dampier threw for 253 yards and three touchdowns, Elijah Davis returned an interception 97 yards for another score, and No. 14 Utah came from behind to beat Kansas 31-21 on Friday and keep its slim Big 12 championship hopes alive.

Larry Simmons caught two TD passes, Wayshon Parker ran for 95 yards and Utah (10-2, 7-2, No. 13 CFP) picked off Jalon Daniels three times in the final game of his college career, helping the Utes reach the 10-win mark for the third time in the last five years.

More importantly, the Utes can still play for a conference title. They need Arizona State to beat Arizona on Friday night, then Texas Tech to lose to West Virginia and BYU to beat UCF on Saturday — a long-shot scenario, to be sure, but a reason to turn on TVs.

“We hope 10-2 gets us to what we want to do, but from my standpoint, we were not happy with how last season went," said Dampier, who transferred in from New Mexico after the Utes had finished 5-7 in their first season in the Big 12.

“Just happy it all came together,” he said. “We finished strong, and it was all that work we put in.”

Utah won despite allowing 290 yards rushing, one week after beating Kansas State after allowing 472 on the ground.

“It took a while to get going, and really get into a rhythm. We started to get some things going in the second half,” Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. “We kept finding ways to make plays, stay in the game, and that's kind of the way it went in the end.”

Daniels finished with 187 yards passing and a touchdown, and also rushed for a TD, though his turnovers led to a smattering of boos from Kansas fans, many of whom have endured the QB's highs and lows over the past six seasons.

Daniel Hishaw Jr. had 107 yards rushing and a touchdown for the Jayhawks (5-7, 3-6). Leshon Williams ran for 104.

“Obviously as a team we didn’t play well enough to win the football game,” Kansas coach Lance Leipold said.

Utah looked as if it might turn Senior Day into a rout in the opening minutes, but the Kansas defense — which had let Leipold's team down so often this season — finally seemed to find its fight. The Jayhawks bottled up the Utes, who had been averaging 279.6 yards on the ground, and early on Dampier was having little success through the air, twice misfiring on fourth-down attempts.

Utah led just 10-7 at halftime in a game it desperately needed to win.

The Jayhawks briefly pulled ahead after the break, when Whittingham went for it on fourth down rather than kick a field goal on a cold, blustery day. Kansas made a stop, drove 67 yards, and Daniels' scoring sneak gave them a 14-10 advantage.

But the momentum swung for good on his two red-zone blunders early in the fourth quarter.

First, Daniels was picked off while trying to throw the ball out of the end zone, and Utah needed just four plays to go 80 yards for a go-ahead touchdown. Then, after Kansas marched downfield again, Daniels was picked off by Davis near the goal line, and the junior cornerback returned it 97 yards to give the Utes a 24-14 lead with 7:52 remaining.

“We had two little hiccups throughout the season, but I'm really proud of how our guys have played, bouncing back from adversity, whether it's after a loss or in game,” Utah safety Jackson Bennee said. “It's been a good season. We'll see what happens.”

Utah only ran for 164 yards but finished with 417 in total offense, and that was enough to make Kansas pay for its mistakes.

Prescott threw for two touchdowns, Malik Davis sprinted 43 yards for a score and the Cowboys overcame two fourth down TD throws from Patrick Mahomes in a 31-28 Thanksgiving Day victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday.

CeeDee Lamb scored the first Dallas touchdown and finished with 112 yards on seven catches after drops plagued the star receiver in a&nbsp;24-21 victory over reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia.

The Cowboys (6-5-1) have won three straight and dropped the defending AFC champion Chiefs (6-6) back to .500 in a matchup of playoff-chasing teams.

Dallas is 3-0 since 24-year-old defensive end&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/cowboys-kneeland-schottenheimer-04061190c64246d3c8ce90ef025f501b">Marshawn Kneeland</a>&nbsp;was found dead of an apparent suicide during the club's open week. The Cowboys came back from the emotion-filled break with a 33-16 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

“On top of where we put ourselves right before these games and just the place that we’re in, having to get these wins against two elite teams,” Prescott said. “I mean, two teams that played in the Super Bowl last year. Last year’s last year, but you’re talking about two organizations that obviously know how to win and we just beat them both in two great games.

“On top of everything that we've been through.”

Mahomes had four touchdown passes in his first professional game at the home of the Cowboys, where he played three times for Texas Tech not far from his East Texas roots.

“They’re the same desperation that we are and they play better over four quarters than we did,” said Mahomes, who threw for 261 yards and was sacked three times, twice by Jadeveon Clowney. “So even though we have good plays here and there, we have be more consistent at the end of the day.”
