LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Hunter Dickinson and K.J. Adams Jr. each scored 16 points to lead a balanced scoring attack and No. 8 Kansas defeated Oklahoma State 83-54 on Tuesday night. All five Kansas starters scored in double figures. Kansas got 12 points from Dajuan Harris Jr., 11 from Johnny Furphy and 10 from Elmarko Jackson. Oklahoma State was led by John-Michael Wright with 16 points. Brandon Garrison added 11 points after scoring the first seven points of the game for the Cowboys.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Jalon Moore had 23 points, Javian McCollum added 21, and No. 23 Oklahoma pulled away from Kansas State down the stretch for a 73-53 victory. RVING, Texas (AP) — The Big 12 has revealed its football schedule for the 2024 season. The league's first year without marquee programs Texas and Oklahoma will incorporate new members Arizona, Arizona State and Utah and mark the return of Colorado to the now 16-team league. Each team will play nine conference games without divisions. Some games will renew old rivalries and other prescheduled matchups will be played as nonconference games. Among the notable matchups, BYU will travel to Utah on Nov. 9 for the 101st meeting of the intense rivals. It will be the first time since 2010 that the schools will face off as conference foes.

The San Francisco 49ers finally climbed back up the playoff mountain to return to the Super Bowl only to find a familiar foe waiting for them. When the Niners get a second shot at a Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs it will be a rare title game rematch in this short of a span. There have only been eight Super Bowl rematches in the previous 57 games, with just three happening in a five-year span before this rematch. The winners of those three rematches were the teams that won the first meeting.

UNDATED-A person with knowledge of the deal says Carlyle Group Inc. co-founder David Rubenstein has reached an agreement to buy the Baltimore Orioles for $1.725 billion. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday night because the agreement had not been announced. Rubenstein is a Baltimore native. He will take over as the team’s controlling owner, and he’s assembled an investment team that includes Ares co-founder Michael Arougheti. The Angelos family has been in control of the Orioles since 1993, when Peter Angelos purchased the team for $173 million. Angelos’ son John is the team’s current chairman. The team recently reached a deal on a new lease extension at Camden Yards.

UNDATED-NHL players Carter Hart of the Philadelphia Flyers, Michael McLeod and Cal Foote of the New Jersey Devils and Dillon Dube of the Calgary Flames have been charged with sexual assault in connection with an investigation into an alleged sexual assault by several members of Canada’s 2018 world junior team. Lawyers representing Hart, McLeod, Foote and Dube say each player has been charged by police in London, Ontario. The developments come two days after former NHL player Alex Formenton turned himself in to police to face charges.

UNDATED-Few college programs have had as much success or produced as many star players in the NFL as Alabama. Amazingly, no player who ended his college career playing for the Crimson Tide has scored a point in a Super Bowl. That won’t change this year with neither the Chiefs nor the 49ers having an Alabama player on the active roster. Players from 143 colleges have scored a point in a Super Bowl with Miami players leading the way with 84. Even the Coast Guard Academy has gotten into the act with an extra point by Washington’s Curt Knight in a 14-7 loss in Super Bowl 7.

UNDATED-Stephen Curry is headed back to NBA All-Star weekend. Sabrina Ionescu will be waiting for him. The shootout that both of them wanted is officially a reality, the NBA announced Tuesday. “Stephen vs. Sabrina” will happen as part of All-Star Saturday Night in Indianapolis on Feb. 17. Curry, the NBA’s all-time 3-point king, will take on the reigning WNBA 3-point shootout queen and single-season record holder Ionescu. “Stage is set! Let’s get it,” Curry posted on social media. Ionescu responded simply: “Let’s go!”

UNDATED-The University of Tennessee chancellor ripped the NCAA president in a scathing letter released Tuesday that said the “failing” organization is pursuing “factually untrue and procedurally flawed” allegations the school violated rules for name, image and likeness compensation compensation to athletes. The letter was written Monday after a meeting between Tennessee officials and NCAA representatives to discuss the allegations. Chancellor Donde Plowman called it “intellectually dishonest” for NCAA staff to pursue infractions cases as if students have no NIL rights. The NIL collective supporting Tennessee athletes was among the first to emerge after the NCAA lifted its ban on athletes making money off their fame.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Rory McIlroy continues his softening against LIV Golf. He says there is no need to punish players who went to LIV Golf and want to return to the PGA Tour. McIlroy says they should be able to play if they are eligible. He also says winning at a signature event like the AT&amp;T Pebble Beach Pro-Am would be cheapened by not having all the best players. Among those missing from Pebble are Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson. Both are with LIV. McIlroy says he spoke to Tyrrell Hatton on Sunday and understands his decision to join LIV Golf.

UNDATED-World Series MVP Corey Seager had surgery Tuesday for a left sports hernia repair, and the Texas Rangers' All-Star shortstop will miss most of spring training. General manager Chris Young says Seager had the operation Tuesday in Arizona, where the team holds spring training, and will remain there for rehab. The Rangers hope to have him ready by opening day. The hernia issue came up during the postseason, and after some extended rest was still bothering Seager during offseason workouts. The Chiefs beat Lamar Jackson and the No. 1-seeded Baltimore Ravens 17-10 in the AFC championship game Sunday to advance to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in five years. Brock Purdy later rallied the No. 1-seeded 49ers to a 34-31 victory over Detroit in the NFC title game. The Chiefs will try to become the first back-to-back champions since New England during the 2003-04 seasons. The 49ers seek a record-tying sixth Super Bowl title in their eighth appearance.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Tickets on at least one secondary-market site are the most expensive in Super Bowl history. The prices underscore the anticipation of the game’s Las Vegas debut between the defending champion and what likely is the most popular team in the West. As well as the possibility Taylor Swift will be on hand when the Kansas City Chiefs play the San Francisco 49ers on Feb. 11. The average purchase price on TickPick was $9,815 on Monday morning. That is nearly double the final average price of $5,795 for last year’s game between the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles in Glendale, Arizona. Current prices could decline before the game.

UNDATED-Adam Silver works for the NBA’s owners, who have seen their franchise values soar over the last decade. He doesn’t work for the players, but they seem to be rather enjoying how their bank accounts are getting stuffed as well. It’s a win-win. And that means keeping him around is seemingly a no-brainer. Silver and the league’s owners agreeing on an extension for him to remain as commissioner of the NBA for years to come makes sense on every possible level. Owners are making money. Players are making money. Fans are happily spending lots of money, as proven by the league setting attendance records.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — The Baltimore Ravens head into the offseason lamenting an opportunity that got away. Baltimore finished with the best record and best point differential in the NFL and beat other top teams in surprisingly convincing fashion down the stretch. But in their most important test last weekend, the Ravens still couldn’t completely break through against the team that’s dominated the AFC of late. Baltimore didn’t seem outclassed in its 17-10 loss to Kansas City, but the Ravens were way too mistake-prone after falling behind early.

UNDATED-The highest court in sports sanctioned Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva for doping violations at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The ruling means U.S. skaters will receive gold medals after they finished second behind Valieva and her teammates in the team competition. The case rocked the Olympics when, about 24 hours after she led Russia to the victory in the team event, details about a sample taken six weeks earlier at Russia’s national championships revealed there was a banned heart medication in her system. More than a half-dozen proceedings and appeals have taken place over the ensuing 23 months, culminating in the decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sports.

DENVER (AP) — Nikola Jokic spoiled Doc Rivers' debut as Milwaukee coach by recording his 14th triple-double of the season in the Denver Nuggets' 113-107 victory over the Bucks. Jokic finished with 25 points, 16 rebounds and 12 assists. Jamal Murray scored 35 for the Nuggets, who gained separation with a late 8-0 run. The game was a chance for Rivers to size up his built-to-win-now squad. Rivers was lured out of his role as an analyst to take over for first-year Bucks coach Adrian Griffin, who was fired after 43 games and a 30-13 record. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 29 points and 12 rebounds as the Bucks began a five-game trip.

Wisconsin moved up seven spots to sixth and Duke climbed five to No. 7, while Iowa State made the biggest jump from No. 23 to No. 12. Alabama and TCU are back in the poll. Tuesday Sports Headlines and Scores presented by Barton Community College

It was a full weekend of bowling for the Great Bend High School bowlers at the Great Plains Invitational Friday and Saturday in Wichita. The Lady Panthers won the 32-team tournament last year and entered bracket play Friday as the No. 2 seed. They bowed out early with a loss to eventual finalist Goddard-Eisenhower. The Panther boys failed to make the final round of eight.

Bowlers rolled a regular series and teams bowled 12 Baker games. The top-five series and the Baker scores were used to see the teams, with the top-eight squads moving on to a bracket-style competition of Baker games.

Salina Central's Rocelyn Show had the high-series at 632. Campus' In all, just three girls reached 600 series. Kaylin Wahlmeier struggled to a 144 in her middle game but shot a 206 and 195 to finish with a 545 series. Paige Heine rolled games of 191 and 189 to also finish at 545. Zoey Mayberry opened with a 202 en route to a 528 series. Brooklynn Mayberry opened with a 181 and finished with a 471 series, and Emilee Nelson topped out with a 158 middle game for her 417 series. Emery Meza rolled a 360. 

Great Bend had big Baker games of 191, 181, 195, 193, and 202 to qualify for bracket competition in the No. 2 spot behind Campus. Facing off against Eisenhower in round one, the Lady Panthers dropped game one 200-178, took game two 215-131, but fell flat in a third game 190-125. Eisenhower rolled 200 or better in three of its final four games of the tournament but fell to Campus 189-161 and 215-210 in the finals.

Thirty-five bowlers in boys' action Saturday surpassed 600 pins. Six of those bowlers rolled 700-series. Wichita Heights' Carson Ford and PJ Level led the way at 738 and 734, respectively.

Brantley Vsetecka rolled a 136 in his first game but finished with games of 208 and 198 to lead the Panthers with a 542 series. Daegen Miller overcame a slow start to finish with games of 199 and 187 for a 530 series. Quinten Miller opened with a 171 on the way to a 438 series, and Josh Manning finished with games of 170 and 153 to end at 431. Keaton Wahlmeier also made the count with a 389. Kayden Detrich shot a 345.

Emporia took the final bracket spot with 5,232 pins. Great Bend finished 26th with 4,025 pins. The Panthers rolled a 205 late in the Baker games but followed that with a 115 and 116 to drop out of contention of advancing.

The Panthers bowl at home Monday against Hays, and stay at the Walnut Bowl for action against Dodge City and Holcomb on Thursday.

Area High School Basketball Schedule (1/30)

For once, the No. 7 Lady Panther wrestling team was able to avoid top-ranked Dodge City at the 4th Annual Washburn Women's Invitational on Topeka Saturday. The field was still tough. Ninth-ranked Washburn Rural (6-5A) piled up 426.5 points for the win. Sixth-ranked Olathe North (6-5A) scored 294 points for second, and Spring Hill edged No. 7 Fort Scott (4A) 280-277.5 for third place. Great Bend scored 234.5 points for eighth.

Sixth-ranked Camdyn Post made it to the finals at 105 pounds where she was pinned by top-ranked Molly Spader of Washburn Rural. Post went 2-0 in pool matches with a pair of pins.

Freshman Kayle Baldwin finished third at 100 pounds. She pinned her Washburn Rural opponent in the consolation finals. Fort Scott's Caellen Wescoat pinned second-ranked Madalyn Riedinger of Gardner-Edgerton for the title.

Second-ranked Daizy Gomez placed fourth at 130 pounds. She pinned her two pool opponents both in 35 seconds or fewer. Gomez had to forfeit her consolation final match against Washburn Rural. Fifth-ranked Karolina Kendall of Blue Valley Southwest (6-5A) defeated top-ranked Koti Best of Topeka Seaman (6-5A) by forfeit in the finals.

Second-ranked Natalee Daniels pinned her first two opponents at 190 pounds on the way to a fifth-place finish. She was pinned by fifth-ranked Ali Simhiser of Fort Scott (4-1A). Daniels rebounded to pin Topeka Seaman in the fifth-place match.

Keira Leyva placed ninth at 110 pounds, pinning Mill Valley in her final match of the day. Top-ranked Alyssa Calovich of Chapman (4-1A) kept her perfect season intact by pinning fourth-ranked Autumn Wilson of Tonganoxie (4-1A) in the finals.

Braelyn Turner finished 10th at 120 pounds. She lost her final match against Shawnee Mission Northwest in sudden victory in the ninth-place match. Second-ranked Kayla Cramer of Manhattan (6-5A) pinned her Shawnee Mission West opponent in the finals.

Danica Cline placed 10th at 155 pounds. She was pinned by Chapman in the ninth-place match. Washburn Rural's Emily Funk won the bracket. Kirra Stevens came up a point shy of ninth place at 170 pounds. She lost a 4-3 decision to Kansas City Turner in the ninth-place match. Manhattan's Sage Rosario, ranked No. 1 at 155 pounds and unbeaten, pinned fifth-ranked Jacqueline Goodman of Leavenworth for the 170-pound title.

Kaydence Demel finished 14th at 135 pounds. She was pinned by Gardner-Edgerton in the 13th-place match. Top-ranked Kaylan Hitchcock of Olathe North won the bracket.

The Lady Panthers host Liberal in a Western Athletic Conference dual on Thursday.

The 66th Rocky Welton Wrestling Invitational in Garden City Friday and Saturday featured 40 teams from four states. The sixth-ranked Great Bend boys scored 121 points to finish eighth overall. Top-ranked Rose Hill (4A) scored 176.5 points to beat Pueblo East (Colo.) by 14 points for the title.

Third-ranked Cooper Liles finished third at 150 pounds. He was pinned by second-ranked Brady Mason of Mill Valley (6A) in the semifinals, but rebounded to pin top-ranked Wyatt Gardner of Wichita County (3-2-1A) in the consolation finals. Andale sophomore Ethan Eck defeated Mason 17-6 in the finals.

Third-ranked Trenton Kern came up just shy of third place at 190 pounds. The sophomore lost an 8-7 decision to fifth-ranked Isaiah Wilson of Andale (4A) in the consolation finals. After winning a pair of thriller at Bethel College to open the week, the Kansas Wesleyan basketball teams will travel to Wichita tonight to square off with Friends

The first of these matchups will take place tonight at the Garvey Center, with the women's game set to begin at 5:00.

CHIEFS PLAYER TO WATCH: It’s not so much a single player but the entire Kansas City offensive line, and the interior in particular, that must play well on Sunday. The Chiefs could be without stalwart LG Joe Thuney after he strained his pectoral muscle in the divisional round at Buffalo. But regardless, if the Chiefs want to win they need to be able to run the ball with Isiah Pacheco, and that starts with the guys up front.

RAVENS PLAYER TO WATCH: All-Pro S Kyle Hamilton has done a bit of everything for Baltimore's defense this season, and his versatility could be crucial against everything Patrick Mahomes can do offensively for the Chiefs. Hamilton became the first player since Tyrann Mathieu in 2015 to have double-digit tackles for loss and at least four interceptions in one season.

KEY MATCHUP: Baltimore's pass protection against Kansas City DLs Chris Jones and George Karlaftis. Houston tried to bother Lamar Jackson with lots of blitzing, but the Ravens eventually adjusted and won that game fairly easily last week. The Chiefs would love to pressure Jackson without bringing extra players if they can.

KEY INJURIES: Thuney (pectoral) and S Mike Edwards (concussion) missed practice this week. So did RG Trey Smith, though he had an illness and is expected to play. ... Baltimore TE Mark Andrews (ankle) hasn't played since November, but he's been at practice this week. CB Marlon Humphrey (calf) also practiced after missing the team's playoff opener.

Sanae Hassnaoui of the nationally No. 2 ranked Barton Community College women's track and field team has been named the week two USTFCCCA NJCAA Indoor Women's Athlete of the Week.

Hassnaoui earns the program's second consecutive national honor in following men's thrower Christopher Young's distinction last week and joins T'Nia Riley (2019) and Ayesha Champagnie (2016) to earn the weekly national indoor award on the women's side of the program.

The freshman from Morocco is off to a fast start in her collegiate debut season with consecutive weeks of making impacts within the storied program record book.

This past Saturday at the Washburn Rust Buster in Topeka, Hassnaoui not only won the mile event by fourteen seconds of the 104 competitor field but did so in a program second best time of 4:51.25 to additionally rank as the NJCAA's 7th best all-time and fastest since 2018.

Hassnaoui now ranks at the top of two NJCAA leader lists on the season as she won the 1000 meters two weeks ago at Texas Tech with a program 6th best time of 2:56.76. Three hours later Hassnaoui nearly pulled off two titles on the day but crossed a mere .06 seconds too late in settling for second place in the 800m at a slow race paced 2:18.40 which currently stands as the season's 7th best time.

Hometown product Kade Sander will be joined by men's basketball standout Jackie Jones and women's tennis player Neus Torregrosa this Saturday for induction into Barton Athletics' prestigious Sports Hall of Fame.

Following a successful career as a Great Bend High School Panther, Sander not only became Barton's first wrestling signee in 2015 but went on to earn the Cougars' first individual national title.

In addition to the national championship, Sander's name still ranks within the top three of the program record books including most wins in a season (39) and career (74) and a 21-1 record in junior college head-to-head dual action.

Jones remains in Barton basketball history as one of the most dynamic players to don the Cougar uniform. Playing for the Cougars from 1987-89 averaging a double-double 18 points and over 10 rebounds per outing with a triple-double performance mixed in, the two-time KJCCC 1st team selection was a highlight machine helping the Cougars win the Jayhawk West in climbing to its first ever No. 2 ranking before concluding his career as a NJCAA All-America recipient.

Taking his talent to the University of Oklahoma, Jones was named the 1990 Big Eight Newcomer of the Year averaging 15 points and 7 rebounds per game and a league leading 2.1 blocks per game including a program record 9 blocks in a single contest.

Jones' historic accomplishments continued in posting a double-double in the Sooners' historic 173-point outing, helped the squad knock off No. 1 ranked teams in succession bolting the Sooners to the top spot, and scored 26 points leading OU to the 1990 Big Eight Tournament Championship.

Torregrosa put the emphasis in both being a student and an athlete during her 2016-2018 time at Barton.

A national top ten ranked singles and doubles player, Torregrosa earned four ITA awards including consecutive NJCAA prestigious honors of receiving the "Jovana Vasic Spirt of Competition" Award for her fair play, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit.

Her accomplishments also included a Region VI Doubles Championship and an ITA Junior College District III "Rookie of the Year" award, continuing her success at New Mexico State University to now climbing the academic ladder of working towards a doctorate degree.

The trio will be enshrined into the Class of 2024 at Saturday's 2:00 p.m. induction ceremony located in the Kirkman Activity Center on the Barton Campus. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

Attendance also encouraged in honoring the inductees between the women's and men's basketball games versus Pratt Community College later that evening.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Patrick Mahomes has already defeated an impressive list of quarterbacks in the playoffs: Andrew Luck, Deshaun Watson, Ben Roethlisberger, Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa.

And of course, Josh Allen, who was eliminated for the third time by Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs last week.

One star AFC quarterback whom Mahomes has never run into in the postseason is Lamar Jackson. The Baltimore Ravens star could match Mahomes this season with his second MVP award — but is only now making his first appearance in the AFC championship game.

“He’s going to be the MVP for a reason," Mahomes said. “He leads his team. He scores, he runs, he throws, he does whatever it takes to win, and that’s what the greats do. It’s a challenge for our defense, but also a great challenge for our offense to keep up.”

Mahomes and the Chiefs face that difficult task Sunday at Baltimore in the AFC title game. It's their sixth consecutive year reaching this stage of the playoffs, but the first time in that span they'll have to play it on the road.

The Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl champions. The Ravens have the NFL's best record this season. It's a fascinating matchup made even more so by the presence of Mahomes and Jackson.

Even if Jackson would be happy to avoid such a tough opponent.

“I don’t like competing against him at all," Jackson said with a laugh. “He’s definitely a Hall of Famer. But I believe it’s just two greats — up-and-coming greats — just going toe to toe, like a heavyweight fight."

This is the first playoff matchup between former MVP quarterbacks who are both under 30.

That's not to say Mahomes hasn't been pushed in the quarterback-deep AFC. Allen has come close to knocking him off, and Burrow actually beat Mahomes in the AFC championship game two years ago before Mahomes won a rematch last season.

Jackson's most recent matchup with Mahomes was a 36-35 win by the Ravens in September 2021. Mahomes won their meetings in each of the previous three seasons.

“Listen, this league is a lot about the quarterbacks, right? We’re fortunate in this game we have two of the best ones in the league," Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo said. "Our goal and what we talk about all the time is, ‘Let’s just get the ball back to our quarterback.’ That’s our job. And the only way to do that is make sure their quarterback doesn’t do the things that he’s capable of doing.”

Baltimore (14-4) reached this round with a 34-10 win over Houston. Kansas City (12-6) beat Allen and Buffalo 27-24 last weekend — with Taylor Swift in attendance watching her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

That romance could be headed to the Super Bowl next month — but the Ravens will do their best to end Kansas City's run.

This is the first time Baltimore is hosting the AFC title game since the Colts beat the Oakland Raiders in January 1971. The current Baltimore franchise has made it to this game four times previously, all on the road, and won twice on the way to Super Bowl titles.

This is Baltimore's fourth time reaching the game under coach John Harbaugh, but the Ravens haven't been this far since their Super Bowl run 11 years ago. Kansas City, of course, has made the AFC title game an annual part of its schedule lately.

“They’ve been in this situation many times. They’ve played in this game. I think they’re a very experienced team,” Harbaugh said. "They’re a hardened team. They’ve been through a lot. That experience always is helpful.”

Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco, affectionately known as “Pops” by teammates, has been a big reason why they have won their first two playoff games.

The second-year standout has run for 186 yards and two scores in wins over Miami and Buffalo, and his success between the tackles has opened up a downfield passing game that has been bottled up all season.

“I think leaning into him, leaning into our offensive line and what they do best is extremely important to our team,” Mahomes said. “It’s not always going to be high-flying, but we’re going to do whatever we can to win the football game at the end of the day. And if that’s running the ball, throwing the ball, whatever that is.”

Of the Ravens' 13 regular-season victories this season, a record 10 were over teams that finished above .500.

“I think that we just do what we’re signed up to do, and that’s play for each other, at the end of the day. Give everything that we’ve got and try to send a message, play in and play out,” linebacker Roquan Smith said. "No bigger stage to do that than the game coming up this week.”

Special teams is usually a factor in the postseason — look at the misses by Buffalo and Green Bay last week. And the Ravens and Chiefs have two of the game’s best kickers.

Justin Tucker is going to his seventh Pro Bowl in 12 seasons for Baltimore, while Harrison Butker was 33 of 35 on field-goal attempts for Kansas City this season and is perfect so far in the playoffs.

“He’s been there for such a long career, no injuries, and he’s made it look effortless,” Butker said of Tucker, whom he recalls watching on Youtube as far back as high school. “He’s kind of changed the kicking game, and pushed us younger guys to say, ‘It’s possible to make 65-yard field goals and these game-winning kicks.’ He’s just an artist.”
