ELLINWOOD — Larry Kent Panning, 89, passed away at Ellinwood District Hospital on May 9th, 2021. Larry was born to parents Alfred George and Elsie (Bortz) Panning on Oct. 15, 1931 who is the 3rd generation in Ellinwood.

Larry’s parents taught him to work hard and have unconditional love for his family and community. Learning by example from grandparents who donated the land for the St. John Lutheran Church, Larry was an entrepreneur, farmer, and leader in the community, county, and state. He served the Ellinwood City Council for eight years, St. John Lutheran Church Council and President for numerous years, Mid Kansas Economic Dev. board, Kansas Water Authority board for 13 years, Wheat bowl, and was Big Bend board President for 17 years.&nbsp; In addition he served as President for the County Economic Dev. board, State Irrigation, and Barton County Irrigation boards, Barton County Elder Care coalition, and Barton County Farm Bureau Board President. In receipt for donating his time Larry earned many awards one of which earned him a trip to the White House to meet President Ford. Mr. Panning also ran for State Rep. for the Republican party and was on the Presidential task force for President Reagan. Other memberships include longtime members of the Rotary Club and Grove Park Golf club where he donated a significant amount of time as well. Larry loved photography, a passion that began young, never missing an opportunity to take advantage of local scenery and always ready to capture family and local Ellinwood events. He also belonged to and hosted the 3 Coin Club. He married Dorothy (Dittrick) Panning on Nov. 18th, 1951 in Manhattan, Kan. She passed away on Sept. 14, 2020.

Survivors include daughter, Susan Dannebohm, Ellinwood, Kan., Sandy Eggers, Ellinwood, Kan., David (Marlene) Panning, Great Bend, Kan., Terry Panning (Desa), Ellinwood, Kan., Kevin Panning, Wichita, Kan. Additional survivors include 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Panning and his parents.

Public funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Fri., May 14th at St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinwood with Pastor Thomas Thierfelder officiating. Interment will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood, Kan. Visitation will take place Thursday, May 13th from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. with family present from 5-7 p.m. at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. Gary Dee Smith, 81, died May 11, 2021, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas. He was born September 20, 1939, in Vesper, Kansas, the son of Robert and Goldie (Clark) Smith.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gary graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957 and later served in the United States Navy.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On March 6, 1965, he married Janice Marie Cates in Great Bend.&nbsp;&nbsp;She survives.

A longtime Barton County resident, Gary was a retired police officer.&nbsp;&nbsp;He first worked in Lincoln, Kansas, and later Salina, Kansas, before taking a position in Great Bend in which he retired as a Detective Lieutenant. He also worked at Guthrie Trailer Sales for 29 years and then 9 years in loss prevention for Wal-Mart, finally retiring at the age of 75.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gary was also a part of the Barton County Sheriff’s Reserves and was a member of the Encounter Church, formerly known as First Assembly of God Church in Great Bend.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janice Smith of the home; three sons, Gary “Bubba” Smith and wife Dee Ann of Hoisington, Michael Smith and wife Jo of Great Bend, and Chris Smith and wife Stephanie of St. John; two brothers, Ronnie Smith of Ozark, Missouri, and Robert Smith of Lincoln, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, Presley, Delaney, and Addison Smith, Hallie Smith, Elizabeth Friess, Andrea Falk, Dakota, Alyson, Hunter and Ava Smith; and four great grandchildren, Rylie, Zayne and Laney Friess, and Molly Falk; and his beloved dog, Yogi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Ricky Smith; brother, Larry Smith; and sisters, Carolyn Smith, JoAnn Michels, and Patty Kissick.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Larned – Craig Allen Miller, 81, passed away May 8, 2021 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.

He was born February 23, 1940 in Great Bend, the son of Orville Clarence and Hazel Erlain Fulton Miller.&nbsp;

A lifetime area resident he was a car dealer at C &amp; O Miller Used Cars, Larned. He was a member of Larned United Methodist Church; Santa Fe Trail Auto Club; American Legion, Dodge City; Optimists Club; s; SRCA Dragstrip, Great Bend; Larned Fire Rescue and was a charter member of the Larned Rescue.

On February 6, 1971 he married Charlotte Kay Richardson at Larned; she survives.

Other survivors include: daughter, Megan (Jason) Day, Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Lance (Lisa) Miller, Shawnee; and four grandchildren, Reese Miller, Chase Miller, Hank Day, and Meredith Day.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Doucette.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Pastor Tricia North presiding. Larned – Gracie L. Perez, 88, passed away May 6, 2021 at the Center at Waterfront, Wichita.&nbsp;

She was born March 13, 1933 in Mountain Home, Arkansas, the daughter of James Henry and Addie Clutch Henderson.

Moving from Arkansas, she has been a Larned resident since she was 18. She worked as an LPN at St Joseph Memorial Hospital for 25 years and later as a Licensed Mental Health Technician for Larned State Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned and the Altar Society. She enjoyed helping with church activities, planting flowers, and cruising in the country to see wildlife, birds, and farm animals. She absolutely adored her family and grandchildren, always doing anything they asked.&nbsp;

On March 6, 1954 she married Fheno G. Perez at Larned; he survives.

Survivors include: husband, Fheno G. Perez, Larned; a daughter, Regina (Harold) Henderson, Wichita; a son, Reginald (Erika) Perez, Wichita; a sister, ErmaLea (Herman) Butler, Harrison, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Kevin (Kayla) Perez, Alyssa Henderson, Makayla Perez, Ashley Tennant, and Nicholas Tennant; two sisters-in-law, Ann Perez and Lola Perez, both of Larned; and a brother-in-law, Raymond (Betty) Perez, Larned; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Tony Hinson, 59, passed away May 5, 2021, in rural Great Bend. He was born April 7, 1962, at Concordia, to Gary &amp; Patricia (Blake) Hinson. He married&nbsp;Michelle Erskin May 18, 1985, at Great Bend.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Tony graduated from Great Bend High School in 1981. He installed overhead doors for C&amp;V Home Improvement/Kansas Doors. He enjoyed collecting odds and ends items, garage sales and loved traveling to Las Vegas. Tony loved to help everybody, was an excellent handyman, a true jack of all trades and was the go to man when you had a problem. He never knew a stranger. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who called him Papa Tone.&nbsp;

Survivors include, his wife, Michelle Hinson of the home; two sons, Tyler Hinson and Jessi Ziepfel of Bluffton, SC, and Blake Hinson of Midland, Tex.; a daughter, Janell Simmons and husband Matt of Topeka; his mother and father, Gary and Pat Hinson of Great Bend; his father and mother in law, Don and Sharon Erskin of Great Bend; a brother, Greg Hinson and wife Alina, and a sister, Tammy Hinson, all of Great Bend; and two grandchildren, Kendall Simmons and Abby Hinson.&nbsp;

Tony Hinson

Virgil Gene Schuster, age 77, of Ellis, Kansas passed away May 5, 2021 at the Andbe Home in Norton, KS.&nbsp; He was born September 15, 1943, in Ellis to Frank P. &nbsp;and Mary (Flax) Schuster. He graduated from Ellis High School in 1961.&nbsp; He later married Rosalie (Schutz) April 4, 1964 in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on May 24, 2013. Virgil owned Schuster Service in Ellis for 42 years. After retiring from the service station he filled his time driving for Mid Kansas Auto Auction as well as driving the miniature train at the Ellis Railroad Museum. He collected Texaco memorabilia, die cast cars and enjoyed completing jig saw puzzles.&nbsp; He was a Third Degree Ellis Council Knights of Columbus. He graduated from Ellis High School in 1961.&nbsp; He later married Rosalie (Schutz) April 4, 1964 in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on May 24, 2013. Virgil owned Schuster Service in Ellis for 42 years. After retiring from the service station he filled his time driving for Mid Kansas Auto Auction as well as driving the miniature train at the Ellis Railroad Museum. He collected Texaco memorabilia, die cast cars and enjoyed completing jig saw puzzles.&nbsp; He was a Third Degree Ellis Council Knights of Columbus. Jane Joan Schonhoff, passed away Monday, May 3, 2021, at the age of 93. She was born February 4, 1928, at Great Bend, to John &amp; Anna (Dougherty) Mooney. She marreid Ed Schonhoff August 2, 1949, at Ellinwood. He died August 21, 1999.&nbsp;

Jane was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Derby and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend. She was an avid reader. Jane especially loved spending time with her family.&nbsp;

She is survived by her children Debra Smith (Dale),&nbsp;Nancy Weiser( Bob),&nbsp;Susan Herrman (Floyd),&nbsp;Mark Schonhoff (Sara),&nbsp;and Julie Schonhoff, as well as her grandchildren Matt Schonhoff, Emily Schonhoff, Sam Schonhoff, Matt Smith, Ben Smith, Justin Smith, Adam Weiser, Chris Weiser, Todd Schonhoff, and Keith Schonhoff.&nbsp;Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Schonhoff, her son, Michael Schonhoff, and two grandchildren, Timothy and Tiffany Schonhoff.

David Thomas Trinka, 71, passed away May 3, 2021, at the&nbsp;University Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. He was born May 16, 1949 at Hamilton, Ohio, to Ciprian T. &amp; Eleanor (Franklin) Trinka. He married Olivey Padilla August 20, 1978 at Fairfield, Ohio.&nbsp;&nbsp;She died January 16, 2011.

Coming from the Philippines, David has lived in Great Bend for the last year. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the VFW. David loved playing pool, guns, and reading westerns or books by his favorite author, Clive Cussler.&nbsp;

Survivors include, two daughters, Nancy Trinka and Elizabeth Trinka, both of Cincinatti, Ohio; a brother, Paul Trinka of Hamilton, Ohio; a sister, Carol Trinka-Skolas and husband Steve of Great Bend; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Stephen Trinka.&nbsp;

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Ohio. Memorials have been designated to the Wounded Warrior Project, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

John William Herl, 72, passed away May 2, 2021, at his home in Great Bend. He was born March 29, 1949, in Great Bend, to&nbsp;Victorinus "Vic" and Mabel (Leeper) Herl. He married Vicki Day July 29, 1970, and they later divorced. He later married Bernadean “Bernie” Stos Suppes on January 29, 1983, and they later divorced.&nbsp;

John graduated from Great Bend High School in 1967 and later graduated from Emporia State University. He went into active duty in the United States Army on April 10, 1969, obtaining the rank of Specialist 4. He transferred into the Army Reserves on November 13, 1970. John was honorably discharged on April 9, 1975. John was a family man and a hard worker, who proudly worked along-side his family at Corrosion Proof Fitting Company. He later owned and operated Herl Pipe &amp; Specialty, Inc.&nbsp;

John loved to ride motorcycles, fast cars, gambling, and to travel with friends. He was very committed to the Catholic Church and was a member of Prince of Peace Parish.&nbsp;&nbsp;John had a calming soul, generous heart and especially loved spending time with his family. He never met a stranger.

Survivors include, a son, Cameron Herl Day and wife Alma Castillo of San Jose, Calif., a daughter, Brandee Harrison of Great Bend; a step daughter, Shawna Farley and husband Chris of Dallas, Texas, and a step son, Chad Suppes and wife Keri of Hays; his siblings, Vickie Herl of Great Bend, Vic "Joe" Herl, Jr. and wife Rena of Arizona, Valerie Hartle and husband Allen of North Carolina, James "Jim" Herl of Wichita, Jerry Herl of North Dakota and Vanessa McCormick and husband Mike of Ohio; seven grandchildren, John E. Herl Day, Breelee Harrison, Brooklee Harrison, Baislee Harrison, Brittany Kozura, Kaitlyn Suppes and Kale Suppes; three step grandchildren; and eight step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;

Larned – Bonnie Lee Loughrige, 91, passed away May 3, 2021 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

She was born July 15, 1929 in Dodge City, the daughter of Myrl Lador and Gladys Pearl Ackley James.

Moving from McPherson, she was a Larned resident for 64 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Larned, where she served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Christian Women’s Fellowship, and helped with the CWF Thrift Shop, member of Larned Country Club and Pitch Club. She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, volunteering at the blood mobile, boating, fishing, and water skiing. She really enjoyed sports, especially watching her daughter and grandchildren play throughout the years, along with watching KU and KSU basketball, the Chiefs, and the Royals.

On October 15, 1949 she married Floyd Glen Loughrige at Larned; he preceded her in death on February 27, 2017.

Survivors include: a son, Mark James Loughrige, Pratt; a daughter, Kathy Jo (Paul) Heidrick, Manhattan; three grandchildren, Alan (Lisa) Heidrick, Julie (Jeff) Moore, Lori (Brad) Scheuerman, all of Manhattan; and five great grandchildren, Allison Heidrick, McKenzie Heidrick, Maren Moore, Bennett Scheuerman, and Wyatt Scheuerman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Myrlen Ray James.

Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2021 at Larned Cemetery, Larned with Pastor Aaron Withrow presiding. Bonnie Lee Loughrige

Larned – Thomas Louis Stejskal, 72, passed away May 2, 2021 at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born February 17, 1949 in Great Bend, the son of Leonard Ralph and Anna Mae Cramer Stejskal.

A lifetime Pawnee and Edwards County area resident, he was a farmer/rancher; a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Endowment Board, Larned; Knights of Columbus #2141; Edwards County Extension Board; Edwards County 4-H Foundation; Big Bend Water District; Lewis CO-OP Board; Edwards County Program Development Committee; Santa Fe Trail Center Board, Larned; and the Soil Conservation District. He was a 1972 graduate of Fort Hays State University with a BS in Agriculture. He enjoyed working in his shop, building things, welding, and was an avid reader.  He especially enjoyed visiting and teasing his family, his friends and his neighbors and giving many of them nicknames.  He was quite proud of all the accomplishments and achievements of his four grandsons and always gave his wife flowers, making sure to always sneak in a yellow rose on her birthday and Valentines Day.   He hoped to be remembered as being a trustworthy and honest person. 

On August 8, 1970 he married Donna M. Morgan at Hays, Kansas; she survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Ross Thomas Stejskal, Colby; a daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Marie Stedje, Larned; three brothers, Anthony “Tony” (Chris) Stejskal, Abilene, Timothy “Tim” Stejskal, Larned, Theodore “Ted” (Joyce) Stejskal, Wichita; and four grandchildren, Brendan Stejskal, Bryson Stejskal, John Stedje, and Reed Stedje.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Anna Marie “Susie” Stejskal.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding. Patricia Ann Haley, 73, died May 2, 2021, at Azria Health of Ellinwood. She was born July 27, 1947, in Hoisington, Kansas, the daughter of Robert J. and Mayola Fae (Beatty) Haley.

A longtime Claflin resident, Patricia was baptized in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  

Survivors include; a brother, Dennis Haley of Merrionette Park, Illinois; 4 neices and 1 nephew and several great neices and nephews.

She was precded in death by two sisters, Roberta Haley and Mary Barta.

Jeremiah&nbsp; Joseph “Jeremy” Slemp, 41, Hoisington, Kansas, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas.

Jeremy was born November 19, 1979, in Sturgis, Michigan, the son of Joseph E. and Sandra K. (McClain) Slemp.&nbsp; He was a resident of Hoisington, Kansas, for one year, moving from Bison, Kansas.&nbsp; A 1998 graduate of Constantine High School, Constantine, Michigan, he was the Central Kansas Commercial Account Manager for Advance Auto Parts.

He was an active member of the Hays Soccer Club, Hays, Kansas, both as a player and a youth coach.&nbsp; He was a life member of the NRA, and loved to hunt.

On September 14, 2002, he married Ashley K. Henry at Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;

Survivors include:&nbsp; his wife, Ashley Slemp, Hoisington, Kansas; four sons, Dakota Slemp, Dillon Slemp, Dawson Slemp, and Deklan Slemp of the home; his father and step mother, Joseph “Joe” and Linda Slemp, La Crosse, Kansas; his mother, Sandra Hummel, Constantine, Michigan; his maternal grandmother, Mary McClain, Three Rivers, Michigan; one sister, Lacy Quake (Andrew), Three Rivers, Michigan; and one step brother, Ron Reed (April), La Crosse, Kansas.

Born – March 31, 1925 and Passed – April 27, 2021 in Bryan, Texas following a brief illness.&nbsp;

Fern married William B. Wood in 1948. They lived in numerous locations in Kansas including a 15 yr. residence in Liberal.&nbsp;&nbsp;They relocated to Pampa Texas in 1971 where Fern retired from C. R. Anthony Co.&nbsp;

Fern was born and raised in Claflin, Kansas where she graduated from Claflin High School in 1942. She completed business college in Salina, Kansas the following year. She had various jobs while following Bill who transferred often with Halliburton, Co.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her employers include; KCKN Radio Station, Kansas City, The Red Cross @ Great Bend Kansas Airbase, Santa Fe RR, Walnut Creek Milling, Taylors Music Co., Reneau Jewelers, C. R. Anthony Co. (Ret.) and Dunlap’s in Pampa, Texas.&nbsp;&nbsp;Throughout her life Fern loved playing the piano and enjoyed all types of music. Fern was an avid bowler who also loved working with ceramics and stained glass.&nbsp;&nbsp;She also enjoyed volunteering at the Pampa Senior Citizens Center while serving and visiting with friends.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Glen A. Dowse and Nellie (Stumpff) Dowse of Claflin, Kansas. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 71 yrs. William (Bill) Wood from Duncan, Oklahoma.&nbsp;

Fern is survived by her family which includes daughter Barbara (Wood) Dale and husband Owen as well as her son Randy Wood and wife Juanell.&nbsp;&nbsp;Five Grandchildren, Eight Great Grandchildren, and Five Great-Great Grandchildren.&nbsp;

Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 4th, 2021 in the Claflin, Kansas Cemetery, with Pastor Diana Webster presiding.&nbsp;

Maybelline "May" Joyce Karst, 87, passed away Nov. 19, 2020, at Medicalodges of Great Bend.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born March 2, 1933, at the farm, in rural Milberger, to George and Mary (Kraft) Steinert.&nbsp;&nbsp;May married Leonard Karst April 16, 1950, at Evangelical Immanuel Lutheran Church, north of Milberger, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;

May, a resident of Great Bend since 1968, moving from the farm in Galatia, was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, south of Milberger, and was currently a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend. Her many church involvements at Trinity included Sunday School, ushering, greeting, Monday Bible School Class, Rebecca Circle, home communion ministry, flower and cookie delivery, and planning various soup suppers.&nbsp;&nbsp;She retired as a CNA at ElderCare, previously working as a dietician for the Dominican Sisters of Peace and Central Kansas Medical Center and Cherry Village, Medstaff, J.C. Penney, Kmart, and was a previous owner of the Zarah Cafe.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her volunteer spirit was displayed through the Stephan Ministry program, Barton County Food Bank and Red Cross blood drives. May enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, crafting and time spent with family.&nbsp;

He married&nbsp;Donna Dino February 19, 1966 at Great Bend. She died July 11, 1985. He then married Connie Fisher and they later divorced. He then later married Lisa Marie on March 12, 2021.&nbsp;

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Don worked for Allen Drilling and most recently worked for E&amp;E Paint &amp; Glass. Don was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church. He especially loved to spend time with his family and his American Pit Bull Remi.&nbsp;

Judi Jean Swagerty, age 68, of Great Bend, Kan. died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. She was born July 30, 1952 in Salina, Kan. She married Steve Swagerty on Dec. 28, 2001 in Great Bend, Kan.&nbsp;

She was a Case Worker at Sunflower Diversified Services in Great Bend, Kan. for over 20 years and also worked at Walgreens in Great Bend, Kan. before retiring in 2020. Throughout her life she was devoted to helping others and was a frequent volunteer at church working with children and adults doing whatever was needed to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Her faith was her foundation and she gave tirelessly of herself, always with a smile on her face. She was a kind, generous, loving, and joy-filled person whose absence will be felt for a long time. Judi grew up in Salina, Kan. where she attended school and graduated with a degree in Education. She moved to Great Bend, Kan. where she was a resident of the area for over 30 years. Judi was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Great Bend, Kan.&nbsp;

She was born July 30, 1952 in Salina, Kan. She married Steve Swagerty on Dec. 28, 2001 in Great Bend, Kan.&nbsp;She was a Case Worker at Sunflower Diversified Services in Great Bend, Kan. for over 20 years and also worked at Walgreens in Great Bend, Kan. before retiring in 2020. Throughout her life she was devoted to helping others and was a frequent volunteer at church working with children and adults doing whatever was needed to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Her faith was her foundation and she gave tirelessly of herself, always with a smile on her face. She was a kind, generous, loving, and joy-filled person whose absence will be felt for a long time. Judi grew up in Salina, Kan. where she attended school and graduated with a degree in Education. She moved to Great Bend, Kan. where she was a resident of the area for over 30 years. We lost a Beautiful soul, Janice M. (Keller) Becker, 78, from earth into heaven. She was trapped in her body on earth with a very tough fight with dementia. She remained kind, happy, resolute and devoted to her husband and family through it all. A class act in sickness and in health. Such a wonderful role model for many. Humble and unselfish, always there for us when we needed her. She peacefully passed in her sleep, Sunday morning, April 25, 2021, at Showalter Villa, Hesston.&nbsp;

Born on December 16, 1942, the youngest and only girl to Charlie and Lucile (Duddy) Keller in Great Bend. She married her first and only love, Jerry Becker, June 10, 1961, in Seward. They were married for 59 years.&nbsp;

Jan was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, business woman, cub scout leader, drum Corps mom, active church member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hutchinson, Argonne Rebel director and former teacher at Holy Cross Catholic School in Hutchinson. She enjoyed camping and boating but especially loved spending time with her family.&nbsp;

Coming from Lakin in 1981, Mary Lou was a Great Bend resident. She enjoyed bingo and casinos. She enjoyed time with her family but especially loved spending time with her grandkids.&nbsp;

death on October 2, 1967.&nbsp; She was a homemaker and worked in the kitchen
 at St. Joseph Military Academy.&nbsp; Her memberships included St. Joseph 
Catholic Church and the VFW Post #9076 Auxiliary.&nbsp; Henrietta generously 
served others by volunteering with numerous church ministries, the St. 
Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, Goodwill, and founding the Hays Good 
Samaritan Auxiliary.&nbsp; She enjoyed growing flowers and maintaining her 
red roses, traveling with her family and groups, boating at Cedar Bluff 
and Milford Lakes, cooking, and her grandchildren’s visits.&nbsp;

Ed was born May 19, 1948, in rural Rooks County, Kansas, the son of Mildred L. (Spargo) Walker and her significant other, Lee Wildrix.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a resident for 25+ years of Logan, Kansas, moving from Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;He worked as a driver many years for Marlette Homes, Great Bend, Kansas, and Schult Homes, Plainville, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;He also drove for Superior Mobile Home Moving, Hill City, Kansas, Wellex, Williston, North Dakota, and Koch Industries, Wichita, Kansas.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He loved to fish, hunt, and play golf.&nbsp;&nbsp;He also was an avid NASCAR fan.

Survivors include:&nbsp;&nbsp;two sisters, Linda Groff (James), Stockton, Kansas, and Patty Eggers, Sterling, Kansas.

Patrick Bernard Linsner

Iva Gene Behrens, 94, passed away April 20, 2021, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born January 13, 1927, at Larned Kansas. The oldest child of her parents Walter Whaley &amp; Virginia Belle (Burns) Ratliff.&nbsp;She married Roy H.E. Behrens December 4, 1946 at Albert.&nbsp; Roy died December 26, 2000.

Iva, "GiGi" as her grandchildren knew her, was a longtime resident, farmwife and homemaker of rural Albert, moving to Great Bend following the passing of her husband.&nbsp; During World War II, her family resided in Wichita, where she graduated from Wichita East High School.&nbsp; Iva was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, rural Albert, ELCW, V.F.W. Post 3111 Auxiliary, American Legion Argonne Post 180 Auxiliary, Central Kansas Thread Benders and Tangled Threads.&nbsp; She loved spending time with her family especially the greats, enjoyed cooking, sewing, and making quilt blocks. She liked playing pitch at the senior center, working crossword puzzles, playing solitaire and listening to talking books when she could no longer read.

Survivors include, two daughters, Jyl Nokes and husband Arlan of Great Bend and Cheryl Naugle of Springville, Utah; four grandchildren, Mark Naugle and wife Katie, Shawn Naugle and wife Katie, Austin Nokes and wife Kathy and Colby Nokes and wife Stacia; nine great grandchildren, Lea Nokes, Ella Nokes, Cole Nokes, Kennedy Nokes, Taylor Nokes, McKinley Nokes, Maggie Naugle, Henry Naugle and Victor Naugle; four step grandchildren, Phillip Naugle, Jr. and wife Lara, Ronald Naugle, Melissa Stofferson and husband Lonnie and Michelle Lewis; thirteen step great grandchildren; and seventeen step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Behrens; an infant son, Gregory Lee Behrens; a son in law, Phillip Naugle; a brother, Robert "Bob" Ratliff;&nbsp;and two sisters, Phyllis Woelk and Patricia Miller.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, April 26, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at Peace Lutheran Church in Albert, with Reverend Wayne Baldyga presiding. Interment will follow in the Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery, Albert. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to Peace Lutheran Church or Kansas Eye Bank, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
