GREAT BEND -
Gary Wayne Mills, 78, passed away February 9, 2020, at Wesley Medical Center,
Wichita, with his family by his side. He was born on February 13, 1941 in St. John,
to Lyle Dodge &amp; Virl (Dawson) Mills. He married Carolyn Sue Lightcap on
June 4, 1961 at Dodge City. She survives.

A resident
of Great Bend since 1972, Gary previously lived in Dodge City. He was the market
manager at Dillons for 44 years, retiring in 2003. He liked to hunt, fish and
loved all animals. He enjoyed reading and especially spending time with his
family and grandchildren. 

Survivors
include, his wife Carolyn Sue Mills of the home; a son, Greg Mills and wife
Yvette of Scott City; three daughters, Kimberly Blea of Great Bend, Kelly
Holopirek, and Kristin Bosley and husband Don, all of Wichita; a brother, Ivan
Mills and wife Dixine of Winchester, Ky; ten grandchildren; and three great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and stepmother, Lillie
May. 

There will
be no visitation or services as cremation has taken place. Memorials have been designated to the Golden
Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Gary Wayne Mills

ST. JOHN - John J. Keenan, 81, passed
away on February 5,
2020, at Great Bend Health &amp; Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend. He was born
on January 13, 1939, at Great Bend, to Thomas &amp; Martha (Shiels) Keenan. He
married Bernadine Gittlein on June 6, 1959, at Great Bend. She died on August
11, 2000. He later married Marie (Walker) McDuff on April 16, 2005 at Seward.
She survives.

A Stafford county
resident, John was life time passionate farmer. He graduated from St. Mary of
the Plains High School, and then attended college, both in Dodge City. He was a
member of the Great Bend Coop, Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic
Church of Great Bend, Knights of Columbus (4th degree knight, Radium Ranger's
Senior Center, Golden Oldies Senior Center of Seward, Farm Bureau &amp; Farm
Bureau Century Farm Award (100 years farming on same homestead). Most
importantly, John had been a lifelong dedicated member of St. Francis Xavier
Catholic Church of Seward, until it’s closing, serving in every supportive
capacity.

Survivors
include, his loving wife, Marie Walker Keenan of the home; four children:
Tracy McGuinness and husband James of Burlington, Vt., Todd Keenan and wife
Tami of Larned, Tim Keenan of Seward and Tiffany Keenan and wife Aga of
Boulder, Co.; two sisters, Lois Daniels and husband Jim of Wichita and Mary
Lynn Tesar of Omaha, Neb.; a sister in law, Joyce Keenan; thirteen
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many loving nieces and nephews of
"Uncle John". He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Keenan
&amp; Martha (Sheils) Keenan; his late wife, Bernadine (Gittlein) Keenan; a
grandson, Thomas Keenan; two brothers, Kenneth Keenan and Maurice Keenan; and
four sisters, Helen Friesen, Dolores Bryant, Carol Thompson, and baby sister

Friesen and John Tesar.

Funeral Home, with a Vigil and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will

passed away at his home in Great Bend
on Sunday evening, February 2, 2020.&nbsp;
John was born on October 27, 1926 at Malden,
Missouri to Tarry and Mary Jane
(Houchtin) Melton.&nbsp; He was an Army Air
Force veteran having served in Germany
during World War Two.&nbsp; He was united in
marriage to Pauline G. Crabtree on May 11, 1945 at Tupelo,
Mississippi.&nbsp; The couple moved to Great
Bend in 1974 and in April of 1980 John formed M &amp; S
Construction, doing concrete work around the area since that time.&nbsp; 

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; John
is survived by four sons:&nbsp; John L.
“Lawrence” (and his wife, Jane) Melton, Jr. of Great Bend, Kansas, Ronnie
Melton of Lake Wells, Florida, Virgil “Dewane” (and his wife, Sharon) Russom of
Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Allen Ray Russom of Missouri; one daughter, Loretta
Byington of Festus, Missouri; 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, his
wife Pauline G. Melton on February 1, 1999, two sons:&nbsp; Johnny Wayne Melton and Gary Melton, one
daughter Glenale Stacy, and one grandson Steven Russom.

born on March 7, 1950, at Hoisington to Ivan and Myra (Carlisle) Smith.

A lifetime
Barton county resident, Rodney lived in Great Bend. He was a truck driver for
Air Co and most recently Groendyke. He loved hunting, fishing, and the peaceful
solitude that his profession offered. 

Survivors
include, a son, Ryan Smith of Topeka; three daughters, Rachael Colby and
husband Harold of Franklin, Neb., Jennifer Vratil and husband Jay of Great
Bend, and Annika Smith of Great Bend; and eight grandchildren, Trenton Colby,
Kendall Colby, Taylor Vratil, Brooke Vratil, Braden Vratil, Kade Vratil, Rylee
Smith, and Ryan Smith, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three
sisters, Janice Dyer, infant Karen Smith, and Tacy Smith.

Bend. She was born on June 18, 1932, at Odin to Joseph &amp; Agnes (Debes)
Wondra. She married Robert A. White on September 18, 1951 at Odin, KS.&nbsp; He died on July 30, 2010.

She was a
member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Altar
Society. Margaret loved to garden.

Survivors include her children, Ronnie White of Marion, Va., Larry
White and wife Danette of Damascus, Md., Karen Irick and husband Mike of
Brownsville, Tenn., Patsy White and husband Bill Troyer of Eugene, Ore., James
White and wife Midori of Seattle, Wash., Greg White of Fayetteville, Ark.; nine

John William Martin, 39, passed away February 1, 2020, at Via
Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita.&nbsp; He was born May 12, 1980 in Great Bend, to William
A. “Sonny” and Carolina (Ledesma) Martin.

John had
been a Hoisington resident since 2015, moving from Midland, Texas.&nbsp; He worked in retail fabrication sales, and
was a passionate mechanic, especially enjoying many hours on motorcycles and
his classic Chevy Impala.&nbsp; John was a
baptized member of the Catholic faith.

Survivors
include his parents, Sonny and Carolina Martin of Hoisington; two sisters,
Susan Clark and husband Bryan of Hutchinson, and Stephanie Kelsey of Ellis; nieces
and nephew, Natalie Kelsey, Haylee Kelsey and Brendan Clark; grandmother, Alberta
Ledesma of Hoisington; many aunts and uncles, including, John and Juanita
Heinrich of Great Bend and Dallas Martin of Midland; and many cousins,
including, Patty Diaz of Great Bend, Penny Swafford of Rolla, Mo., and Mitch
Martin of Midland.&nbsp; John was preceded in
passing by grandparents, Dorotha Surface, Doyle F. Martin and Herman Ledesma;
one sister, Adrianne Carolina Martin; and many uncles and aunts, including,
Arthur Tisdall and Doyle A. Martin.

A. “Sonny” and Carolina (Ledesma) Martin.John had
been a Hoisington resident since 2015, moving from Midland, Texas.&nbsp; He worked in retail fabrication sales, and
was a passionate mechanic, especially enjoying many hours on motorcycles and
his classic Chevy Impala.&nbsp; John was a
baptized member of the Catholic faith.Survivors
include his parents, Sonny and Carolina Martin of Hoisington; two sisters,
Susan Clark and husband Bryan of Hutchinson, and Stephanie Kelsey of Ellis; nieces
and nephew, Natalie Kelsey, Haylee Kelsey and Brendan Clark; grandmother, Alberta
Ledesma of Hoisington; many aunts and uncles, including, John and Juanita
Heinrich of Great Bend and Dallas Martin of Midland; and many cousins,
including, Patty Diaz of Great Bend, Penny Swafford of Rolla, Mo., and Mitch
Martin of Midland.&nbsp; John was preceded in
passing by grandparents, Dorotha Surface, Doyle F. Martin and Herman Ledesma;
one sister, Adrianne Carolina Martin; and many uncles and aunts, including,
Arthur Tisdall and Doyle A. Martin.There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place.&nbsp; Private graveside services will be held at

Donald Carl “Don” Hardy, 91, Bison, Kansas, passed away
Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Don was born April
28, 1928, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Carl Harold and Elizabeth Jeannette
(Rothweiler) Hardy.&nbsp; He was a lifelong
resident of Rush County, Kansas.&nbsp; He was
a farmer/stockman.

He was a 1945
graduate of Bison Rural High School, Bison, Kansas, and attended Baker
University, Baldwin City, Kansas, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta
fraternity.

He was a member of
the United Methodist Church, Bison, Kansas, serving on many church committees

He was a former
member of the Bison-Timken Men’s Club; the Bison Co-op board of directors; and
past president of the Bison State Bank.

He spent many years
as a member of a local bowling team.&nbsp; He
especially enjoyed being a scorekeeper for almost 50 years for local basketball
games.&nbsp; 

He was a past
chairman of the Eunice Edwards Scholarship Committee for 50 years, from 1967 to
2017.

Due to the sudden
death in 1961 of his brother in law, he stepped in to help his sister with his
two young nephews.

Survivors
include:&nbsp; two nephews, Don Reinhardt
(Jan) Bison, Kansas, and Gregg Reinhardt (Maggie, Great Bend, Kansas; two
great nieces, Elizabeth Pinkston (Jason, Larned, Kansas, and Amy Blackburn
(Mitchell, Bison, Kansas; and four great great nieces; and two great great nephews.

He was preceded in
death by his parents; an infant brother, Francis Hardy; and his sister and
brother in law, Carol and Lowell Reinhardt.

Memorial service will
be Friday, February 7, 2020, at 10:00 A.M. at United Methodist Church, Bison, Kansas,
with Pastor Angie Vertz officiating.&nbsp; 

In lieu of flowers or
plants, the family requests memorials to the Eunice Edwards Scholarship Fund or

Donald Carl “Don” Hardy

TOPEKA -
Idalia M. Ruiz, 90 years of age, was born in Calabazar de Sagua, Villa Clara,
Cuba. She died at Midland Hospice, Topeka, on January 31, 2020, after a lengthy
illness. She was the youngest and only daughter of Nolasco Moreno and Maria
Moreno Crespo, and grew up in the company of her 4 year old brother.

For the
first school years, she attended Calabazar De Sagua School District and the
family looking for better school facilities, moved to Sagua La Grande, where
she attended the Polytechnique school. She enrolled in the state teachers
college at Villa Clara, Cuba, where she graduated 4 years later with a teaching
degree and began working in Sagua La Grande School district, Cuba. During this
time, she attended Havana University Educational School with the goal of
getting her Ph.D. degree in education. She was one year short of completion and
because of political reasons, she resigned her school position and moved to the
United States in 1962, with her two oldest daughters. Her husband, Carlos M.
Ruiz, M.D., escaped from Cuba at the same time and the family reunited in
Miami, Fla., before coming to Kansas in 1963, where their third daughter was
born. 

She was a
member of the First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend, Kan., until her death.
In the United States, she was a homemaker who enjoyed painting, gardening and
traveling to Spain, Italy. 

Survivors
include, her husband, Carlos M. Ruiz, M.D., of 65 years; three daughters,
Idalia Duncan of Topeka, Maria Nold and husband Mark of Virginia Beach, Va.,
and Margaret Montgomery and husband Chris of Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren,
Justin Penka, Alisha Penka, Nathan Penka, Kate Montgomery and Julia Montgomery;
and two great grandchildren, Bryson Penka and Brantley Penka. She was preceded
in death by her parents, and a brother, Miguel Moreno. 

There will
be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends from
1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home. Graveside Service will be held

Idalia M. Ruiz

WICHITA - Ronald D Darcey, 70, passed
away on January 30, 2020, at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center,
Wichita. He was born on January 14, 1950, at Pawnee Rock, to James &amp;
Marguerite (Flick) Darcey. He married Virginia Ann Lane on August 12, 1978, at
La Junta, Colo. She survives.

Ronald was
a Wichita resident for the last 4 years, coming from Nashville, Ark. He retired
in 2006 from Tyson Foods as a comptroller. He enjoyed clay sculpting and cross stitching.
Ronald was an avid KU supporter, a lifetime member of the KU Alumni Association
and KU Business Society. He was an avid traveler, especially enjoying his
visits to National Parks. 

Survivors
include, his wife, Virginia Ann (Lane) Darcey of the home; two sons, Questin
Darcey of Wichita and Brenden Darcey of McKinney, Texas; a brother, Lynn Darcey
and wife Barbara of Newton; two sister-in-laws, Sandra Darcey of Great Bend and

GREAT BEND - Lavern S.
Brown, 88, passed away in rural Barton County on January 29, 2020. He was born
on February 25, 1931, at Sitka, Kan., to Wilbur W. &amp; Katherine (Breit)
Brown. He married Ruby Schultz on August 25, 1954, at Sitka. She survives.

A Great
Bend resident since 1965, Lavern previously lived in Liberal and Protection. He
loved the oil and gas industry and was an oil producer and worked for Parrish
Corporation &amp; Vess Oil Corporation over the last 50 years, and co-owned
L&amp;R Oil alongside his wife Ruby. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish
at St. Patrick Catholic Church and served in the United States Marine Corps
during the Korean War. He loved sports, especially Notre Dame football and KU
volleyball and basketball. Lavern was a self-made man and hard worker but
devoted his time to being a husband, father, grandfather, and great
grandfather.

Survivors
include, his wife Ruby Brown of the home; a son, Tom Brown and wife Shari of
Great Bend; a daughter, Pamela Bechard and husband Raymond of Lawrence; two
brothers, Leon Brown and wife Lois of Colwich and Melvin Brown and wife Judy of
Ashland; two grandchildren, Ashley Henkleman and husband Erik and Brennan
Bechard and wife Danielle; and four great grandchildren, Evie, Hutch, Mason
Jane and Lucy. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alfred
Brown, Robert Brown and Victor Brown; and four sisters, Josephine Pfeifer, Mary
Stegman, Geraldine Hoffman and Vivian White. 

Visitation
will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, February 3, 2020 at Bryant Funeral
Home, with Vigil service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great

Lavern S. Brown

GREAT BEND -
Sharon M. Satterfield, 65, passed away on January 21, 2020, at Great Bend
Health &amp; Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend. She was born on January 13,
1955, at Great Bend to Orval &amp; Betty (Smith) Hejny. She married Charles
Satterfield on May 24, 1975, at Great Bend. He survives.

A lifetime
Great Bend resident, Sharon was a rental specialist for Satterfield Rental. She
was a graduate of Hoisington High School Class of 1973 and a member of Peace
Lutheran Church in Albert. She loved going on the annual Christmas shopping trip
with her sister but especially enjoyed spending time with her grandkids. 

Survivors
include, her husband Charles of the home; two sons, Shawn Satterfield and Shane
Satterfield and lifetime partner Amy of Great Bend; a daughter, Shawna Green
and husband Brandon of Augusta; three sisters, Debra Tammen and Diana Hejny of
Great Bend and Rita Hejny of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and five grandchildren,
Makayla, Alexis, Courtney, Brady and Liam. She was preceded in death by her
parents; and her nephew/godchild, Mathew Tammen.

will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Bryant

Sharon M. Satterfield, 65, passed away on January 21, 2020, at Great Bend
Health &amp; Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend. She was born on January 13,
1955, at Great Bend to Orval &amp; Betty (Smith) Hejny. She married Charles
Satterfield on May 24, 1975, at Great Bend. He survives. A lifetime
Great Bend resident, Sharon was a rental specialist for Satterfield Rental. She
was a graduate of Hoisington High School Class of 1973 and a member of Peace
Lutheran Church in Albert. She loved going on the annual Christmas shopping trip
with her sister but especially enjoyed spending time with her grandkids. Survivors
include, her husband Charles of the home; two sons, Shawn Satterfield and Shane
Satterfield and lifetime partner Amy of Great Bend; a daughter, Shawna Green
and husband Brandon of Augusta; three sisters, Debra Tammen and Diana Hejny of
Great Bend and Rita Hejny of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and five grandchildren,
Makayla, Alexis, Courtney, Brady and Liam. She was preceded in death by her
parents; and her nephew/godchild, Mathew Tammen. Visitation

Karlin, 79, passed away Jan. 17, 2020, at Medicalodges of Great Bend.&nbsp; She was born July 11, 1940, in Larned.&nbsp; Virginia married Ronald James Karlin June 7,
1958, at Larned.&nbsp; He died July 30, 2011.

Virginia
had been a resident of Great Bend since 1958, coming from Larned, where she was
raised by her grandparents, Paul and Ruby Wysong.&nbsp; She was a 25 year employee for Fuller Brush
Industries, working in the distribution department, and upon retirement,
Virginia was employed as a dispatcher for the Great Bend Senior Center.&nbsp; She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at
St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and in her more active
years, Virginia was a Girl Scout leader and taught CCD.&nbsp; She cherished her time with family,
particularly during the holidays and special occasions.&nbsp; Virginia and Ron enjoyed decorating for
Christmas, and will be especially remembered for Santa’s lighted helicopter,
which adorned their front yard every Christmas season.&nbsp; 

Survivors
include one son, Doug Karlin and wife Natalie of Colwich; three daughters,
Kathy Hayes and husband Jim of Great Bend, Christi Roy and husband Rodney of
Hays and Diana Hocker of Bedford, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Jenna Corbett and
husband Jason, Eric Hayes and wife Stephanie, Jason Roy, Kellie Roy, Josh Roy,

Robert E. “Bob” Biles, 74, passed away January 12, 2020, at St. Anthony’s
Hospital, Wichita. He was born on October 10, 1945, at Great Bend, to Manuel Roy
and Claudia (Piland) Biles. He married Paula Hines on June 12, 1965, at
Ellinwood. She survives.

A lifetime
Great Bend resident, Robert was a mechanic and welder for Gibson Titus &amp;
Stafford, Straub International and was later more recently owned and operated Triple
7 Repair. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish. Robert enjoyed hunting,
fishing, camping and being in the outdoors.

Survivors
include, his wife, Paula of the home; a son, Kevin Biles of Phoenix, AZ; two
daughters, Colleen Miller and husband Mike of Salina and Loretta McIntosh and
husband Tim of Great Bend; six sisters, Lavonna Lick and husband Jerald, Susan Marie

Michael enjoyed spending time with his parents and vacationing with them in Colorado.

Survivors include three brothers, one uncle, and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents Jimmy L. and Vera Ellis, and his grandparents.

            

Cremation has been chosen and a private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Lois Marion Kaufman, 89, of
Salina, Kansas, and former Wilson, Kansas, resident died on Thursday, January
09, 2020 at the Salina Presbyterian Manor in Salina, Kansas.

Lois was born on January 24, 1930,
in Kanopolis, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph F. Janda, Jr. and Verna Muriel
(Snart) Janda.&nbsp; She grew up in the Wilson
and Kanopolis area and graduated from Wilson High School in 1947.&nbsp; After high school, she attended Ft. Hays
University and graduated with her Bachelors and Masters Degree in
Education.&nbsp; She met, fell in love and was
united in marriage to Orville L. Kaufman on April 26, 1952, in Dubuque,
Kansas.&nbsp; From this union Lois and Orville
were blessed with two daughters Nathalea and Karleen. &nbsp;Lois' first teaching job was teaching
kindergarten through 8th grade in a one room school house in Wilson.&nbsp; She later taught 3rd and 4th grade in
Dorrance, Kansas and 2nd and 6th grade in Great Bend, Kansas, and was a teacher
for 44 years.&nbsp; She was a member of the First
Baptist Church in Wilson, Kansas, and First Southern Baptist Church in Great
Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a member of the
KNEA, Retired Teachers Association in Great Bend, 4-H and Delta Kappa Gamma
Sorority.&nbsp; &nbsp;She enjoyed being a farm wife, teaching
children and playing the piano.&nbsp; Most of
all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving family include her
daughters Nathalea Stephenson and husband Tim of Salina, Kansas and Karleen
Williams and husband Abe of Castle Pines, Colorado; sister Darlene Palser of
Russell, Kansas; sister in-law Lois Buxton of Salina, Kansas; 2 grandchildren
Brandon Stephenson and Kendra Cox and husband Tim; 4 great grandchildren
Cameron, Mason, Quinton and Brooklyn.

She was preceded in death by her
parents, husband Orville on November 27, 2004; brother Ivan Janda and foster
brother Jim Buxton.

A celebration of Lois' life will
be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at the Wilson Baptist

John W. “JW” Jaco, Jr., 62, passed away on January 8, 2020, at his home in
Great Bend. He was born on January 26, 1957, at Wichita, to John W. Jaco, Sr. &amp;
Dorothy Ruth (Miller) Jaco.

Coming from
Wichita in 1961, JW was a Great Bend resident. He was the owner and operator of
John Jaco, Inc. He was a member of the Barton County Sheriff's Office Reserves
since 1985, currently serving as Special Deputy Sheriff and served on the board
for Barton County Crimestoppers. In the 1990's he was on the Barton county SWAT
team. He enjoyed team roping, his llamas and horses, bird hunting and was one
tough cowboy. He was an avid weight lifter and gun enthusiast. 

Survivors
include, an uncle, Gene Jaco and wife Phyllis of Plainville; three cousins,
Michael Jaco of Springfield, CO, Jana Kuhn and husband Raymond of Overland Park
and Jill Brin and husband Mark of Godley, TX; companion, Rene Tiede; and daughter
of the heart, Shanna Tiede-Long.

John W. “JW” Jaco, Jr., 62, passed away on January 8, 2020, at his home in
Great Bend. He was born on January 26, 1957, at Wichita, to John W. Jaco, Sr. &amp;
Dorothy Ruth (Miller) Jaco. Coming from
Wichita in 1961, JW was a Great Bend resident. He was the owner and operator of
John Jaco, Inc. He was a member of the Barton County Sheriff's Office Reserves
since 1985, currently serving as Special Deputy Sheriff and served on the board
for Barton County Crimestoppers. In the 1990's he was on the Barton county SWAT
team. He enjoyed team roping, his llamas and horses, bird hunting and was one
tough cowboy. He was an avid weight lifter and gun enthusiast. Survivors
include, an uncle, Gene Jaco and wife Phyllis of Plainville; three cousins,
Michael Jaco of Springfield, CO, Jana Kuhn and husband Raymond of Overland Park
and Jill Brin and husband Mark of Godley, TX; companion, Rene Tiede; and daughter

Health and Rehab in Great Bend. Martha was the daughter of Walter Fahrney and
Etta (Moats) Fahrney.&nbsp; Martha lived in
Hutchinson and Larned before moving to Great Bend.&nbsp; Martha and Ivan Mettscher were united in
marriage on June 25, 1950, and were long time residents of Great Bend. Martha
was a secretary for USD 428 Great Bend High School and for Larned USD 495
before retiring. Martha was President of the National Association of Educational
Office Professionals. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Martha and Ivan loved spending their summers in Southfork,
Colorado and participated in the building of the New Hope Church in Southfork.
Martha’s hobby was reading.&nbsp; 

Martha is survived by daughter Vicky Dayton and husband Norman
of Ellinwood; grandchildren Ryan Dayton of Great Bend and Eric Dayton and wife
Nikki of Lawrence, and Randi Mettscher of Balmorhea, Texas; and great
grandchildren Liam Ivan Dayton and Loryn Linn Dayton of Lawrence, Kansas.&nbsp; Martha was preceded in death by her father,

BENTON - Leila Marie (Barger) Harders,
88, was called to her eternal rest on January 6, 2020. She was born on July 22,
1931, at Great Bend, the daughter of Cecil and Mary (Mull) Barger. She married
Delmer James Harders on October 2, 1949, in Great Bend. He died on March 15,
2001.

A resident
of Benton for the last 19 years, Leila was a previous Great Bend resident for
33 years, coming from South Dakota. She was a homemaker and church organist
most of her life. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wichita.
She enjoyed playing the piano and cooking. Leila especially loved spending time
with her family. 

Survivors
include, two sons, Dale Harders of Ipava, IL and Scott Harders and wife Sandy
of Moundridge; two daughters, Michele Parker of Benton and Lisa Harders of
Towanda; two sisters, Alene Clarke of Great Bend and Shirley Likes of
Mechanicsburg, PA; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Delmer Harders; one daughter, Sheila Sue
Harders; one sister, Iona&nbsp; Ramsey; and
one brother, Wayne Barger.

Lisa Ann Jamison, 53, died Saturday, January 4, 2020 at her home near Hays.

She was born January 27, 1966 at Quinter, the daughter of Larry and 
Annette (Ziegler) Jamison.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Trego Community High 
School and served in the United States Army during Desert Storm.&nbsp; She 
received he Masters from Ashford University and was the Office Manager 
for Quail Run Gun Club in Kiowa, Colorado until moving to Hays in 
October of 2019.&nbsp; She was also an Avon rep for many years and enjoyed 
canning.

Survivors include: her 3 daughters, Megan Janousek and husband Tee 
Jay, Hays, Molly Westfall and Colt Richardson, Elbert, Colorado and 
Marissa Westfall, Kiowa, Colorado; her mother and father, Annette and 
Jerry William, Hays; 3 brothers, Mike Jamison and wife Lynda, Great 
Bend, Ross Jamison and Noel Sheldon, Palm Springs, California and Grady 
William and wife Tavia, Hays; a sister, Robin Banks and husband Scott, 
Plano, Texas; 3 grandsons, Theodore Janousek, Samuel Janousek and

Fuqua.&nbsp; Lenora married J. Nelson Stone
March 18, 1972, in Great Bend.&nbsp; Nelson, Sr.,
passed away April 9, 1985.&nbsp;

A long time Great Bend resident, Lenora graduated from
Blackwell High School and Arkansas City Junior College.&nbsp; She worked for DuBois Sand Co., DuBois and
Stone Sand Co., and Stone Sand Co., spanning from 1957 to 2009, retiring after
52 years.&nbsp; Lenora loved to work, and
enjoyed puzzles and playing dominoes with her family and Brookdale
friends.&nbsp; She had a passion for writing
notes and letters to her friends and family, never forgetting birthdays or
wedding anniversaries.

Lenora is survived by one son, J. Nelson Stone, Jr. and his
fiancée, Shana Persinger of Great Bend; three grandsons, Connor James Stone and
Kason James Stone of Great Bend, and a grandson expected in March; 100 year old
mother, Pearl (Fuqua) Lippincott of Sherman, Texas; one brother, Kenneth Fuqua

Harold LeRoy Glanville, 82, passed away January 2, 2020, at Wesley Medical
Center, Wichita. He was born on December 1, 1937, at Scott City John Kinney
&amp; Edith (Woods) Glanville. He married Viola Perez on June 7, 1964, at
Leoti. She survives.

Coming from
Hoisington in 2004, Harold was a Great Bend resident. He was a sales associate for
Water’s True Value and delivered tires for Becker Tire. He was a veteran of the
United States Army. He loved watching K-State, Kansas City Chiefs and Royals,
but especially loved watching and supporting his grandchildren's sporting
events. 

Survivors
include, his wife, Viola of the home; three daughters, Starla Bieberle and
husband Glen of Redwing, Debbie Hosman and husband Joel of Holyrood, and Daphne
Beck and husband Randy of Great Bend; one sister, Lois Smades of Larned; nine
grandchildren, Trevor Bieberle, Ryan Bieberle (Kelsey Larocco, Zachary White
(Jordan Warford, Nicole White, Nathan White (Jaclyn, Isaac White (Brogan,
Bryce Beck, Baylee Beck, and Bradley Beck; and four great grandchildren, Landon
White, Ryder White, Brooklyn White, and Koby White. He was preceded in death by
his parents and two brothers, Eldon Glanville and Carroll Glanville. 

Cremation
has taken place and family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, January
5, 2019. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 6, 2020,
at Bryant Funeral Home, with Reverend Tom Swain presiding. A Private Family
inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Kans for
Kids or ElderCare, Inc., &nbsp;in care of

Jane L. Thomas, 86, of Grand Junction, CO, formerly of Great Bend, KS, passed
away Thursday, December 26, 2019, at Mantey Heights Rehabilitation &amp; Care
Center. She was born on June 9, 1933, in Newtown, CT, to Lewis Richard &amp;
Sarah Jane (Read) Slocum. She married Dorwin Thomas in 1959 at Randolph Air Force
Base. He died in 1979.

Survivors include, her son,
Dorwin Thomas, Jr. of Wichita Falls, TX; her daughter, Yvonne Cabral of Grand
Junction, CO; grandchildren, Melissa Fultz, Josh Walters, Christie Stephens,
and Lance Rippel all of Grand Junction, CO, Tiffany Wilkie of Port Angeles, WA
and Crystal Bortz, April Thomas and Steven Thomas, Jr. all of Great Bend, KS;
many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two sisters, Susan
Fernandes of Newtown CT and Marion Weber of Hebron, NH.&nbsp;&nbsp; She is

Erwin, 87, passed away December 28, 2019, at Larksfield Place Health Center,
Wichita. He was born on January 3, 1932 at Walnut Grove, Missouri to Rubert
&amp; Ruby (Combs) Erwin. He married Sharon Southard August 26, 1960 at Great
Bend. She survives.

A Great
Bend resident since 1959, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He
was a CPA and partner of the accounting firm Kennedy &amp; Coe, prior to
co-founding Cross, Erwin &amp; Goerl. He was a member of Foundry Methodist
Church. He was in the United States Navy and served in Europe during the Korean
war. Bert and Sharon recently moved to Wichita. 

Survivors
include, his wife Sharon of the home; one son, Mark Erwin of Overland Park; two
daughters, Jana Erwin of Wichita and Pamela Roemer and husband Mark of Minneapolis,
Minn.; three grandchildren, Abigail King and husband Charles, Benjamin Streit
and Angus Durfee; and brother-in-law, Joe Southard and wife Loretta. He was
preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Steven Erwin and Greg Erwin; one
brother, Samuel Randolph Erwin (Alma); one sister, Bettye Rockhold (James); and
a grandson, Jonah Erwin.

will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at Bryant

Bert W. Erwin

Roger F.
Murphy, 81, passed away peacefully Dec. 24, 2019, surrounded by his loving family
at his home in Great Bend.&nbsp; He was born July 16, 1938, in Great Bend, to
Edward and Dolores (Schartz) Murphy.

From a
young age, Roger proved to be a tenacious leader.&nbsp; After graduating from Great Bend High School
in 1957, he juggled college classes at Fort Hays State University, a busy
farming operation, and seven years of service in the US Army Reserves.&nbsp; He married his high school sweetheart, Mary
Lou Fisher, on August 27 1960 in Great Bend, in the midst of launching his
first business venture, Great Bend Feeding, Inc. in 1959.

As with
most successful businessmen, his interests and knowledge grew from farming and
livestock to include real estate and banking as well.&nbsp; Over the years, he had founded or co-founded
many other successful business ventures, including Alfalfa Pellets, American
State Bank, NA, Innovative Livestock Services and Dillwyn Acres.&nbsp; His extensive business knowledge also led
Roger to invest in several local business projects, including CPI Qualified
Plan Consultants and Fuller Industries.

In addition
to Roger’s professional accomplishments, he also had an impressive volunteer
service record.&nbsp; Roger helped found and
develop the Golden Belt Community Foundation and Catholic Social Services, and
has served as a board member for many organizations, including First National
Bank, Barton County Historical Society, St. Rose Foundation, American State
Bank, Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and Innovative Livestock Services.&nbsp; Roger’s community service also extended him
to serve on many other various efforts, including the B-29 Memorial.&nbsp; 

Roger was a
member of Prince of Peace Parish, Great Bend, Knights of Columbus Council #862,
Kansas Livestock Association and National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.&nbsp; 

Survivors
include wife, Mary Murphy, of the home; one son, Andrew Murphy and wife Megan
of Telluride, Col.; one daughter, Kayla Fischer and husband Steve of Wichita;
one sister, Jill Eliason and husband Dan of Overland Park; five grandchildren,
Bailey Johansen and husband Eric of Wichita, Bryce Fischer of Wichita, Hadley
Murphy, Owen Murphy and Emmett Murphy all of Telluride; and a great
granddaughter, Sophia Johansen.&nbsp; Roger
was preceded in passing by his parents, Edward and Dolores (Schartz) Murphy;
step father, K.W. “Pete” Kirkman; and two brothers, Doug Kirkman and Donald
Kirkman.

Mass of
Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2019, at St. Patrick
Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Don Bedore presiding.&nbsp; Interment
will follow at Great Bend Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 1 - 9 p.m.,
Friday December 27, at Bryant Funeral Home, with a Vigil and Rosary at 7
