Statue stolen from youth baseball league facility in Kansas

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating the theft of a Jackie Robinson statue in Wichita.

According to the city, around midnight Wednesday, someone stole the League 42 Jackie Robinson statue at the Jackie Robinson Pavilion in McAdams Park,  1329 E 16th Street N, Interstate 135 and 13th Street area.

The vandals cut the statue off just above Jackie's feet and loaded it into a truck and took it away. There is some video of the theft, according to the organization. 

League 42, named in honor of the great Jackie Robinson, the first African-American in Major League Baseball, is a youth baseball league comprised primarily of urban children ages 5 – 14 in the Wichita area, according to the organization's web site.

League 42 donated the sculpture to the community. Damages are estimated at $75,000, according to the city.
