Deceased man found in Kansas home had a history of crime

COWLEY COUNTY—Police have identified the individual who was found deceased inside a residence in the 400 block of South 10th Street in Arkansas City on June 30, as 38-year-old James Thomas Brown VI, according to a media release from the Arkansas City Police Department.  Brown had a history of crime with four previous drug related conviction in Cowley County, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Just after noon June Tuesday, police were dispatched to the residence. Officers and investigators responded to the scene, confirmed that one individual, later identified as Brown, who was deceased, and began processing the scene as part of an ongoing investigation. Brown was transported to the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center for a medical examination.

Investigators determined that Brown did not have an established residence in Arkansas City, which contributed to the time required to confirm his identity.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Brown's death remains ongoing.

At this time, no additional information is being released while investigators continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
