$275,000 damage after fire at Kansas home

SHAWNEE COUNTY —A family avoided injured after a fire at a Kansas home.

Just after 10 a.m.Thursday, crews from the Topeka Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 1508 SW Ward Pkwy, according to spokesperson Rosie Nichols. Crews found a two-story house with smoke and flames and extinguished the fire. All residents were able to escape before fire crews arrived.

The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical, having originated in the kitchen. The estimated loss associated with the fire is approximately $275,000, with $225,000 associated with structural damage and $50,000 associated with content loss. There were no injuries.

The home did not have working smoke detectors where the fire originated, according to Nichols.
