Juvenile in custody for drive-by killing of 11-year-old at KC home

KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a shooting at a Kansas City home that killed  11-year-old Kourtney Freeman have identified a subject of interest, according to KDPC Captain Jake Becchina. The subject is a juvenile and is in custody. Police have released no additional details on the investigation.

Just before 10p.m. April 10, police were dispatched to the 3300 block of Flora in Kansas City on a sound of shots call, according Becchina.

While officers were on the way the call was upgraded to a shooting with a victim inside a residence at the address.

Officers were led inside a home where they located a Freeman unresponsive. Officers rendered aid and called for EMS who responded, took over treatment and transported her to the hospital where she was declared deceased a short time later, according to Becchina.

Detectives spoke with people who were at the scene when officers arrived and canvassed for witnesses.  

A funeral service was held April 21,  for Kourtney, according to Serenity Funeral Home.
