Residents avoid injury after Kansas apartment fire

SHAWNEE COUNTY—A fire caused significant damage to a home in Topeka.

just before 6 a.m., crews responded to a houe fire located at 1624 SW Topeka Blvd., according to spokesperson Gretchen Spiker.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the two-story home that is being used as apartments. Crews began an offensive attack and were able to keep the fire contained to the first floor, where the fire originated. No occupants were located in the residence, and no injuries were reported.

Investigators determined the fire cause is accidental. The estimated loss from this incident is approximately $11,500. Working smoke detectors were not located in the residence.
