Central Kansas hit hard by storm on Monday night

The National Weather Service issued multiple storm warnings in central Kansas Monday evening and after severe thunderstorms brought heavy rainfall and 80 mph wind gusts across the region.

Monday's storms also caused a widespread power outages, downed trees, and caused damage to homes.

Roads are flooded as some areas received up to 7 inches of rainfall fell in Salina and Saline County..

Two semi drivers were injured in accidents during the thunderstrorm just after 9p.m. Monday in Saline County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2026 Volvo semi driven by Sergot Alcide, 46, Connecticut, was westbound on Interstate 70 at Brookville Road.  Strong winds blew the vehicle and trailer over. 

At the same time, a 2025 Peterbilt semi driven by Paul Cheche Kanja, 50, Kansas City, Missouri, pulled over onto the westbound shoulder of Interstate 70 at Reese Road. Strong winds pushed the vehicle and trailer over.

Law enforcement and first responders were busy throughout the evening and overnight.  There are no reports of injury.
