MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — No. 1 Alabama has won the national championship game, 52-24 against No. 3 Ohio State. It was the final game of a season played entireply in a pandemic. Alabama went 13-0 as coach Nick Saban won his seventh national championship and sixth as coach of the Crimson Tide, all in the last 12 years. Justin Fields and the banged-up Buckeyes just could not keep up. Smith, the Heisman Trophy winner, had catches for 12 catches for 215 yards and three touchdowns, all in the first half.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs had to wait until the very last of the six wild-card games played over the weekend to find out who the reigning Super Bowl champions would play in the divisional round of the playoffs. As if they hadn’t sat around long enough. The Chiefs clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC and its lone first-round bye in Week 16, so that means Patrick Mahomes and most of their stars will have gone 21 days without stepping on the field for a game by the time they face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday for a spot in the conference championship game.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State freshman Xavier Foster will miss the rest of the season after electing to have surgery on his right foot. Foster played in seven games, averaging 4.0 points and 7.8 minutes. The Oskaloosa, Iowa, native was initially injured in high school. The surgery is expected to keep Foster sidelined eight to 12 weeks. Coach Steve Prohm said he fully sports Foster's decision to have surgery. Foster tried to play through the injury. Prohm says it's best for Foster's health to have the surgery now.
