Thanksgiving Day airplane mishap in Kan. under investigation

JOHNSON COUNTY—Federal authorities are investigating an airplane mishap that occurred just before 5p.m. on Thanksgiving Day in Johnson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1994 Cessna Fixed Wing Single Engine Aircraft piloted by Brandon Matthew Kanoy, 33, Overland Park, took off from New Century Airport and experienced power failure.

The pilot was able to turn around and start landing on Runway 36. Upon landing the airplane ran off the end of the runway. The aircraft came to rest approximately 300 feet off of the runway.

Kanoy and a  passenger identified 93-year-old Robert Brown were not injured. The NTSB is in charge of the investigation.
